The great athlete that won three world cups for his national soccer team, the athlete that started from the bottom and now is a superstar, yes, he is known as Pele. Odysseus traveled from his homeland to Troy and back. Pele also traveled four times for the World Cup. Pele embodies the characteristics of an epic hero because he is a national hero, he traveled over a vast setting, and he is humble. Pele is a national hero in his country Brazil, and a national hero is the maximum comparison that you can make with this great athlete due to his amazing skills: “Virtually all great athletes in the sport are measured against this Brazilian who once made the world stop to watch his transcendent play” (“Pele”). Everybody compares a rising talent with Pele, if you are a great soccer player and you're breaking records, people might be comparing you with Pele, which is the maximum comparison they can make. If you're the best soccer player at that time you could be as good as Pele.
