Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a thoughtful about Charlie Sam and Patrick. These two people, Sam and Patrick, are charismatic. They allow Charlie to turn from a timid person to become a more confident person. One of the many themes in this book is how things can change because of what someone has done. Throughout the book you see Charlie change and the characters around him change. The biggest example of change in the book is Charlie. As he gets to know the charismatic teens, Sam and Patrick, he opens up, experiences things. When he was a kid his Aunt Helen, someone Charlie really care for, died in a car crash. For example Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. There are many songs in the book that give a good idea of what is happening in Charlie’s world. These songs and the experiences with these songs impact him. ‘When we hit the tunnel, all the sound got scooped up into a vacuum, and it was replaced by a song on the tape player. A beautiful song called “Landslide”. When we got out of the tunnel Sam screamed this fun scream, and there it was. Downtown. Sam sat down and started laughing. Patrick started laughing. I started laughing. And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.’ Charlie says ‘infinite’ when he is around Sam and Patrick. This makes him, unsurprising, happy. He has a good relationship with both of them, and he shared his first kiss with Sam. Their relationship, however changes during a game of truth or dare he was dared to ‘Kiss the prettiest girl in the room.’ He kissed Sam and at this time he was dating another person. This person was in the room. Patrick and Charlie then left the apartment. He wanted to go back into the apartment, Patrick stopped him saying, ‘Believe me.
