Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi, was an impactful non-fiction text we read this year. Written in the author’s perspective, it tells the story of a young girl living in Iran during the Islamic revolution in the 1980s. Students completed an elaborate study guide for Persepolis, in depth compared to those of fictional texts. This contained critical-thinking questions for the student to ponder about. Question 22 from the Persepolis guide asks, “How do children begin to reflect the adult world’s political realities? Where does this occur today?”.
