The authors of both “Snowfall” and “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” created strong characters that persevered through difficult situations. Overcoming challenges and solving problems is shown a lot in “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” and in “Snowfall”. In ”Snowfall”, the majority of Castillo's friends were carried away by the avalanche. Castillo didn’t know what to do, he decided to problem-solve and call nine-one-one. The section, “A Ticking Clock” states, “Castillo called 911. It was 12:02 p.m. The avalanche occurred seven minutes earlier” This shows Castillo problem-solved. Instead of freaking out, Castillo did something to help the situation. In the short story “Snowfall” it says, “Castillo, occasionally shouting at others nearby, tried to explain where the avalanche occurred.” This evidence proves that Castillo was trying to get help and save people. In the book”Between a Rock and a Hard Place", Aron says, “I keep walking and shout again, “HELP! I NEED HELP!” No matter how stressed out Castillo and Aron were, they reached out for help when they needed it. If Aron didn’t think fast, he wouldn’t have been able to survive due to the amount of blood loss he had. Castillo also wouldn’t have been able to save the lives or recover the bodies of some of his friends that got buried in the avalanche. Asking for help saved both of their lives, and in Castillos case saved others. Perseverance can get you a lot further in life than giving up. Persevering can help you get through hard times and can help you accomplish things you never thought you could
