Perseverance is the essential part for humans to achieve their goal. We see this in the film “Shawshank Redemption”, it is a pretty brutal thing to maintain perseverance under extreme conditions, such as in a prison like Shawshank. In Shawshank nobody can keep themselves calm, prisoners are always exposed to the threat of the warder’s violence and the pressure of being surrounded by other insane prisoners. Andy is the character who was charged with the murder of his own wife and was sent to the Shawshank prison. The director introduces how brutal Shawshank is through Andy’s perspective, he gets raped by the other prisoner named ‘Bogg’ and experiences the warder’s violence with his bare eyes. After he came to Shawshank, he experienced every terrible and disgusting things happening there. Whenever Bogg’s “sisters” physically abuses and rapes Andy, he endures it until he figures out where to get protection and how would he manage it. Andy gets protection from the guards and relations with other prisoners, and he achieves his demands by his knowledge and skills. He builds relationships with ‘co-workers’ by sharing beers from helping Hadley. We can see how Andy perseveres to escape Shawshank; he crawled through the sewage tunnel, burst a pipe open and it took him 20 years to dig a tunnel. During 20 years in prison, he managed to keep his perseverance and even those 20 years of enduring moments did not directly let him escape from the prison. It is important to endure for an exact moment with a certain belief. For Andy, he never lost his belief of hope; he always dreamed of himself after he got out of the prison and Andy waited with that conviction for the exact moment when thunder could cover the sounds of cracking the pipeline. These factors led Andy to achieve his escape. Sometimes we misunderstand the value of perseverance, unprepared perseverance is not much different than avoiding the problems. For example, I did not get a learners license until grade 11, because I avoided spending my hours to read over the driver's manuals and putting in enough effort on to that; I plausibly packaged myself, as if I’m waiting for a certain moment without any planning.
