Once in my basketball game, my team was losing by many points. However, we never gave up. We were determined to make a comeback. With each passing moment, we edged closer to the other team's score. The excitement built and the crowd grew louder. With 2 seconds left, Julien Flores shot the ball. Swoosh. We won the game because of our perseverance. This relates to the novel titled, “The Time Machine” by H.G. Wells. The theme of the novel explores how perseverance allowed the main character to overcome obstacles, much like I did in my basketball game. This novel is about a time traveler who traveled far into the future. The world was very different and another species called the morlocks inhabited the world. They had stolen the time machine. The time traveler persevered through many challenges to eventually retrieve his time machine that allowed him to return back home.

Wells is that you should care for others. H.G. Wells states on page 74, ”When I realized this, I hurriedly slipped off my clothes, and, wading in at a point lower down, I caught the poor mite and drew her safe to land.” This evidence shows how the time traveler saved Weena from drowning rather than being a bystander like everyone else. This supports the statement that the main theme in The Time Machine is that you should care for others. H.G. Wells also states in his novel on page 87, ”Weena had been hugely delighted when I began to carry her, but after a while she desired me to let her down, and ran along by the side of me, occasionally darting off on either hand to pick flowers to stick in my pockets.” This evidence shows how after the time traveler saved Weena from drowning, Weena started to care for him. She started to show kindness and this made the time traveler feel good. Weena showing kindness and affection towards the time traveler supports the theme that you should care for
