1. There are two main pillars in my desire to join Coast Guard Aviation. The first and foremost reason is the one that pushed me to work towards a commission within the Coast Guard and that’s service. I want to continue down a path of servant leadership and widen my sphere of influence to create positive change within the Coast Guard. The second pilar is search and rescue. Search and rescue has been my main operational focus throughout my entire career. I wish to continue developing my skills as an effective leader, utilizing increasingly effective platforms, and serving as a force multiplier to other units. I have learned so much over the past decade. As a Boatswain’s Mate I have had the joy of working at high tempo, operational units my entire career. I have learned critical leadership skills such as decisiveness – personally leading over seven hundred search and rescue and law enforcement missions often, in dire circumstances. As a Deck Watch Officer, I’ve learned what it means to be a reliable shipmate - ensuring the safety of the crew through an endless variety of missions. How to think strategically – as the Executive Petty Officer, overseeing nearly every aspect of the ship, ensuring the ship and her crew have everything needed to succeed. The past eleven years have shown me the effects of a positive work environment and the development of a healthy command culture, and the equally visible effects of a negative environment. It takes determination and commitment from every crew member, regardless of rank or position, to develop a positive, encouraging, and respectful unit culture. I view this call to action among the highest priorities for which all leaders must set the example. Throughout my career, I have gained wisdom and a multitude of skills that have forged me into an effective and reliable leader. I have dedicated myself to taking every opportunity to pass on this knowledge to my shipmates and will continue to do
