I am a dynamic, energetic and innovative pathologist, with 9 years of sign-out experience in Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, and Hematopathology, with emphasis on the latter. In addition, in the past five years, I have been serving as the laboratory director of Bioreference Laboratory at Mineola, NY, specialized in prenatal screening and also providing clinical chemistry and hematology testing. Since my last year of residency, I have endeavored to acquire knowledge and skills in the field of pathology informatics. This has included a vigorous, mainly self-taught approach towards gaining programming and computational skills. Because of my strong interest, my residency program allowed me to spend all my fourth-year elective months at Stanford Medical Informatics (SMI) Department. During the rotation, I participated at the El-Book project, focused on using ontologies for information retrieval, under the supervision of Dr. Lawrence Fagan. Also, I took the Introduction to Medical Informatics Course (currently called BIOMEDIN 212), directed by Dr. Mark Musen, while auditing the …show more content…
During my Surgical Pathology and Hematopathology fellowships, I served as the statistical analyst for various ongoing research projects, some of them reflected on my list of publications and abstracts. Through these participations, I acquired a rather in-depth understanding of basic and advanced statistical techniques, and gained competency with statistical software and environments (SPSS and R). I also briefly participated in a research project at Bioreference focused on analyzing array CGH data. During this phase, I acquired a working knowledge on various techniques of cluster
