The notion is that every individual can, through concentrated efforts and dedication, improve their own socioeconomic class and climb up the hierarchy.
In the speech “How to Talk to Veterans About War” Wes Moore is trying to convey the message that the saying “thank you for your service” is only a start to the conversation a person should be having with a veteran. To do this, Moore tells the audience his story. Moore starts off by saying that he got into trouble as a child, and that his mother decided to send him to military school. After he graduated, he gave her the papers to sign up to become an army officer, which she then signed (Moore). Moore explains that he didn’t sign up to go to war, and that he thought he might serve on a weekend or a few weeks out of the year; however when 9/11 happened that thought process changed.

If you do then you must be bamboozled when Veteran's Day rolls around and you don't get to spend the day with them and thank them for their services to this great nation and preserving our freedom. Less than 1% of Kentucky's schools are on a delay or canceled. You may ask "But this is Veteran's Day one of the most important days to our nation!?! Should schools really be on regular schedule?"
The exact definition of a veteran is a person who has had long service or experience in a particular occupation or field, for example a person who has served or is serving in the armed forces. Today, there are 21.8 million veterans in the United States, who dedicated years of hard work and commitment to our country. There are many different ways that someone could have been involved in fighting for our country. There are five different branches of the military.
In conclusion, we should always remember those who fought and are still fighting for us not just one time a year but everyday. We should be thankful for a veteran, because we have freedom to do the things we love where some countries do not get that privilege. We can hunt , fish, play basketball and see our friends and family. Some countries don’t get the freedom that we do.
While I was gathering my information for this speech, my brother passed by. Out of curiosity, I asked, “Do you know what a Veterans Day is?” His exact words were, “Yeah, we get off school that day.”
America as made it through countless hardships, and we have won many wars, to gain the hope for the future we have today. My grandfather, who fought in Vietnam, is a hero. I appreciate what he and our founding fathers and veterans have given us, they gave us freedom and hope for the future.

The most important quality in becoming a successful USMA cadet and Army officer is being able to reflect on one's flaws and strive for self-improvement. As an active member and teacher in my church, I had the responsibility of supervising and teaching the younger children about biblical passages and elucidating certain concepts. These duties proved arduous as the children would often become stubborn and refused to listen. Too stubborn to try and understand the root of their lackadaisical attitudes, I believed it was their inability as students to learn that was to blame. However, it wasn’t until a fellow teacher enlightened me that I was able to see my mistakes of shifting blame to others.
