Obsession comes in many varieties and severities. How do you view obsession? There is a lot of discussion about obsession, good or bad. Some believe you need obsession to create, that passion isn’t enough. Others look at the obsession with going too far. In addition to the battle of it being positive or negative, obsession also tends to falsely get put in a category with words that although similar have quite different meanings. Obsession is its own individual matter. Not passion. Not addiction. Something I have learned from experience. Personally, obsessiveness has been a small but constant part of my personality. Sometimes a fault, sometimes an asset. I’ve always had an obsessive personality but I’ve not always understood the way it affects my actions and decisions. Frequently, obsession is mistakenly limited to referencing a love for a specific person or item. There are some people who go through obsessive phases where they become captivated with one particular thing. Then there are those like me who live with obsessive tendencies in many aspects of my life. Others find the obsession with creation. A deep uncontrollable desire to make art, music or literature. These are all examples of obsession. It’s a battle of positive and negative. Maybe in regards to obsession, you can’t have one without the other. It goes beyond the way most people use the word, more than love for one specific someone or thing. Obsession isn’t always rooted in love. Sometimes it’s desire or determination that drives obsession. Or it’s something you can’t control. I believe obsession isn’t black or white. While it can have benefits, it also creates difficulties.
