The feel of leather, the sting of the bright yellow ball, and the power behind the bat is what I live for. Everyday walking onto the fresh cut green grass makes my adrenaline pump. The love for softball has followed me from my childhood into young adulthood and has changed me from a shy young lady into a powerful leader. My first few years of playing softball were scary. I was nervous and constantly missing the ball. I thought I was not good enough to be on the team with the people I knew were magnificent players. I learned a valuable lesson: work harder and faster than everyone else. Knowing I was working with great athletes I had to prove myself that I was worthy enough to play on the team. I was beaten and tired out from all the extra training, but it’s what I had to do. I spent nights after practice to work on things I messed up on. I kept telling myself Push. Push. Push. It would all be over soon, it will all be worth it and soon enough it was. My mom was an essential part of my learning process. She was my motivation and my inspiration to keep moving forward. “You have to love what you do in order to do what you love.” I realized that I loved softball so much that I had to join the summer league and encouraged people to always do better and to strive to be the best. The summer league coach looked at me and he said “ Chief, I see leadership and potential in you. I want nothing less”. He gave me the title of team captain.
