On February 22, Jenny woke up extremely excited about the day’s plans. She had a date with a friend later that evening. Jenny spent most of the day getting dressed, undressed, then redressed, doing her make-up, and fixing her hair. By 6:30 P.M. she was completely ready. She decided to eat a light meal while she waited on Tom to pick her up. Tom picked her up at 7:05 P.M. He was taking her to a show that started at 8:30 P.M. at the House of Blues. Since they live in Slidell, he drove on I10 so that it would only take forty minutes, give or take, to get to New Orleans. They arrived at 7:52 P.M. and waited in a long line outside. Everyone, including Tom and Jenny, grew increasingly annoyed. Finally a bald man in black clothes walked outside to make an announcement to the crowd. Due to technical difficulties and malfunctions, the show had to cancel. The announcer apologized greatly for the inconvenience and informed the crowd that the show would be postponed. The House of Blues welcomed anyone that wanted their money back instead to have their money refunded. Jenny and Tom walked back to the car in the drizzle, aggravated and soaking wet. Tom realized he earlier locked his keys in his truck. Though Jenny’s phone was on only four percent, she called her friend, Jamie, for a ride home. After Jamie agreed to pick them up, Tom and Jenny searched for shelter to get out of the rain. Within ten minutes of waiting, Tom and Jenny calmed their nerves. With Tom’s nerves mellowed, he remembered something important. Tom keeps a spare key under his truck in a Hide-A-Key magnetic container. Upset that he did not realize this sooner, he apologized to Jenny and asked her to call Jamie back. Just minutes before this happened, Jenny’s phone died. The two of them had no way of contacting Jamie. They waited twenty-five minutes in Tom’s truck, out of the rain, before Jamie showed up. Feeling sorry that Jamie had to drive forty-five minutes for no reason, Tom and Jenny sincerely apologized, explained the situation, and handed Jamie gas money before
