Personal Narrative: A Humorous Wedding

As I sit here inside of a red, elegant, and sparkling tent woven with an abundant amount of lights, I think about my future. To the left of me, I hear aunties gossiping about what her daughter did. They had such vivid details you would think they were CNN reporters. To the right of me, I hear uncles trying to hit on aunties. I hear remarks that would get me shunned for saying out loud and I hear comments that would disappoint their scrawny malnourished children. But, in front of me I hear a grouchy priest conducting a marriage ceremony for my sorrow filled cousin and her soon to be fat, rich, and American husband.

Ahhh, papa! I got into the best graduate school in India! Mom I have worked so hard for this! Papa I hope I made you proud!”
“This is great dear! We are proud of you, but… umm we think it is now the perfect time for your marriage and we have found the perfect man for you! They are even willing to pay for you to complete your studies.”
“Actually… Mom and Dad…”
“… yes?”
“I have already met a man… he’s willing to marry me mom! He is studying to become a doctor and his family is from Mumbai and they are rich and and and… he loves me! His name is Adit… Adit Shah.”
This is the last conversation Anoushka’s parents have with her before they aggressively show up at her university demanding to pack her stuff up into the damp boxes they picked up from a local milk dispensary on their way to Mumbai. Using as much resistance as possible she does not oblige. But, in the end she has to give in. She realizes that Adit was too good to be true and her parents or his would never allow it. After all she is the daughter of two Patels.
Without even a whisper of goodbye to Adit, whimpering, Anoushka gets in her parents grey Toyota never to see the rowdy Mumbai streets, the aromatic chai stand or Adit and his eyes again.
