Growing up in San Diego was fun. The beach was near my high school and it was the ultimate after school hangout. At the beach, you could enjoy the best homemade ice cream at Mootime Creamery. When my friends were hungry, we would head out to the closest taco shop. My favorite dishes are rolled and fish tacos.
I was born on a Navy base in San Diego a little before two in the mourning. I am the youngest with two older sisters Shauna and Cassie. We basically lived two-thirds of our childhood on military bases stationed throughout the United States of America. My father being in the Navy meant we moved a lot I have lived in New Orleans, Pensacola, and San Diego and finally we settled in Tomball, Texas which is thirty minutes away from Houston. I went to a lot of different schools during my childhood an sometimes we would move before the year is up which made it difficult for me in school.
Several individuals from different ethnicities, races, and citizenships, compose a society. The United Sates allow us to have a close interaction with numerous individuals from diverse backgrounds. In my own case I have been able to interact with many incredible individuals from all over the world who come from extremely different backgrounds. I am a proud Mexican who cherishes respect towards diversity. Coming from a very suffered country I am able to understand not only what does it means to feel proud to be a Latino, but also I can feel acquainted with the pain and struggle that our community has to face every day.
Last Sunday, I went on the fieldtrip to Oakland to gain a view of the gentrification reality there. Initially my friends were all amazed why I would go there since they had thought there was a dangerous place to visit. Prior to the trip, my impression about Oakland is a city with a longer history than those in south bay, since I noticed there was a Chinatown which was a product of the immigration wave happened centuries ago, and those Cantonese immigrants called Oakland “二埠” (the second port besides San Francisco). After I arrived there, I realized that Oakland was not only a city preserved history but also a wonderland of racial diversity. According to what I learned from the lecture, Oakland was once had its own structure of what kinds
Off to Tahoe One day when I was visiting Tahoe my mom called a family meeting and she said we were all as a family going to move to Incline Village. I started crying on the inside but on the outside I was showing much exitement. I felt really sad but I didn’t want to disappoint my mom so I never told her.
“I’ll come back to visit sometime,” is what I am obligated to tell to every single one of my friends I made. Since I was young I never had trouble making friends, but keeping them was a challenge to me. It wasn’t because I was mean or because I didn’t want friends, it’s because I moved around a lot when I was younger. I was born in Fresno, California, but then I moved to Mexico at a really young age so I was raised there until I was five years old.
It was a sunny day, the sun is high up in the sky and I woke up with a smile on my face, I remembered that we are going on a trip to San Diego. My mom woke up early in the morning to make breakfast for the family. The breakfast for that morning was an egg with sausages and bacon, those foods were my favorite breakfast foods.
I believe, being a single mom with two kids and commuting 1 ½ hour everyday from Turlock to Fresno and my work and volunteer experiences that I have more than ten years in different organizations, such as charities, schools, hospitals, restaurant, physician’s office and other communities will show internship directors that I am very committed to dietetics program. Also, I have a warm personality, and I am a team player. I am a good listener, and I am a problem solver and a good one. I enjoy the challenge of identifying a problem, analyzing it and solving it. Somehow, I might bring other skills and values, such as creativity, integrity and kindness due to my personality and my volunteer work in different fields.
We were on our way to New Mexico to visit my grandparents. At this time, I lived in Texas so it was not that far and they lived by the state line of Texas, the North West side of Texas. It always took us about four hours to get there but this trip was a little different. We were in tornado season so you know where this is going it could have been like two and a half hours. Then we hear on the radio a tornado alert luckily there was a rest point with a gas station so we stopped and went inside I was only like nine years old but remember this day.
Road Trip Kaley opened room 125 in Saint Charles hospital down the street next to and mary's coffee shop. As she opened the door, her grandmother was laying on her bed with oxygen tubes in her nostrils. As Kaylee walked in, her grandmother right away knew it was her bye the way she knocked and by the way she walks in. Kaley starts to speak to her grandmother in a quiet but loud enough voice for her to hear "Hi grandma!
Over thanksgiving break, my friend and I decided to go visit the California Museum near downtown. After we purchased our entrance, the first thing that caught my eye was the live size bear in front of the museum. This was my first time at that specific museum so it caught my eye more than my friend. Since he has been there already, he showed me around and we went outside to see the giant Constitution Wall. The wall was also fascinating because it was huge and it had phrases from the California Constitution.
Growing up in Compton, California was difficult in terms of goals. I could set high goals to achieve, but the reality of my lack of resources would still pull me down. In middle school I was an excellent student whose hard work earned praise from teachers. However, this praise meant little to me since I was also aware about my community’s underachieving schools.
World War 2 was changing everything the people knew and loved. The world had changed and no one knew what to do next. Many places were affected, one of those places was Los Angeles except it was changed for the better. It was an ordinary day in Los Angeles, California. The birds chirped and the flowers bloomed.
The cold winter wind smacked me in the face as I ran out of my house with my six month puppy named Hunter. I brought him to the car which had a thin sheet of snow covering the top of it. As my dad brushed off the snow my two sisters Krista and Kaitlyn ran out of our house and into the warm car. As my sisters took their seats in the back of the car we were all impatiently waiting for my dad to clean off the car. As we waited we all stroked Hunters soft white fur that was located on his back.
Although only a couple of hours away from where I live, I never had the chance to visit Chino Hills. Recently, though, a good friend of mine moved out there for work. Kevin got a job with a freight shipping company, so I found a good reason to visit the city, at last. I never knew things will take an interesting turn on my forthcoming meeting with my old friend.
