Lady Liberty symbolizes freedom and hope to immigrants who come to the United States. She is the Golden Door to freedom. Her torch symbolizes safety. The message at her feet read “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore” (Redstone, n.d.). When immigration first began, the United States offered the golden door to immigrants wanting to relocate here by offering them freedom, safety, and the hope of beginning a new life to support their families (Greenstone & Looney, n.d.).
In 2012, the Republican and Democratic Party Platforms both identified that the United States would not be the country that it is today had it not been for those individuals wanting to relocate in this country as generations of immigrants have help strengthen the country and contributed to the U.S. economy (Tactaquine, n.d.).
