On 07/01/17, at 3:21pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian was dispatched to Kids Kingdom Childcare and Learning Center (970 Oakland Park Ave), on a dog at large, no known owner. I arrived at the location and met with complainant Latanya Cox and victim Jamaal Cox Jr. Ms. Cox stated that she sent her grandson outside to retrieve something from her vehicle. When her grandson returned, he stated that a brown and white pit bull was outside growled and approached him. He was able to get inside before the pit bull caused any harm. Ms. Cox escorted me outside where she point out a white house just behind the childcare center.
In the novel and movie, “A Dog’s Purpose,” by W. Bruce Cameron, the story follows a reincarnated dog who can remember his past lives, one of them being Toby. The two versions are very different, but by far the biggest change in the movie was how they decided to make Toby’s life shorter than his time in the book because of safety reasons. In the book, Toby was put into a yard with several other dogs, and on many occasions, they fought. It would be an incredible liability to have dogs actually fight for the movie. In fact, dogfighting is a felony offense in all 50 states.

Diabetic Alert Dogs are specially trained service dogs. Because of this, they can be placed under the same standards and rules for other service dogs. The point of a service dog is to improve their owner’s life and independence, whether they need assistance because of physical or psychiatric disabilities (autism included) no matter their age or developmental stage. Diabetic Alert Dogs are trained to recognize hypoglycemic episodes and according to an article in Podiatry Review, “For many individuals with brittle diabetes who get no warning of such an episode these dogs are truly lifesavers.” (p. 1).

I can only be who I really am when I am home alone and in my room. My parents have always questioned me why I act differently when I’m outside versus at home. If I told them I feel anxious or paranoid, they’ll just say I’m shy. I can never tell them because they refuse to understand. There were so many times when my parents that it’s not just me being shy, but something else.
Wedging my way between the cool, silver door and plaster walls, I somehow squeeze into the cozy little room. A bundle of soft, caramel fur with mocha eyes and a salmon-pink tongue stares up at me with apprehension. Gradually, I crouch down, my knees scraping against the rocklike floor, and attempt to appear as unthreatening as possible. Silence pervades the room as we watch each other; all of my training has flown out of my head.

However as you sit up in your bed and look over to see your dog sitting so politely with those big puppy dog eyes. There is no choice but to put your tennis shoes on and tire out your cute little pooch before leaving for work. Most people let the big responsibility of a dog lead them to miss out on the opportunity to own such a wonderful pet. However kids learn the most important aspects of responsibility when taking care of a pet and can create life long memories from having a furry little friend at home.
