My background is firmly concreted in the band community. I had no idea that joining the band as a tenor saxophone player in sixth grade would have such a remarkable effect on me. My teachers and I have noticed my growth, driven by my dedication to what I love. I have worked hard within my supportive band association to achieve my goals. Of my ultimate goals was to make one of the most exclusive bands in Nebraska.
I began participating in band in 5th grade and throughout the years I have discovered that music is something that I truly enjoy. I originally decided to continue on with band during high school just for fun, unaware on how much of an impact it would have on my life. Through band, I have met some of my best friends and I have experienced once in a lifetime opportunities like performing at Walt Disney World, during a parade. Over the past four years I have drastically improved my musical ability and my leadership skills. Most importantly I have learned the value of a job well done.
The first time I got introduced to music would be in my school band in my 5th grade year, I played the clarinet and i liked it for the most part and I wasn't to bad with it, but something was wrong I just didn't feel like it was mine thing so i tried something else I started to use a guitar when i got to the 7th grade and I went to take classes in my band class and to be totally honest I like the guitar better the the clarinet and after a year of playing I stopped to focus on school. But after a year i decided to play something again
When I walked into the theatre I saw several stations on the stage where the musicians would be located. I had brought my mom to the show with me and we talked about the different instruments that were going to be played in the show. The instruments played consisted of Matt Nguyen and Frank Keyser on keyboards, Miguel Rojas and Tommy Orquiz on Drums & Percussions (with the assistance from Professor Giammario on Drums), Jacob King on bass, Brian Perez and Davon Tart on Saxophone, Daniel Mellerson on Trumpet and Ryan Caster on vocals. We cannot forget the very energetic Professor Boyle as the conductor. There was a full audience in attendance when the show was ready to begin.
Music is a very recent thing that has changed my life. I have always had an interest for music, since I was young I would dream of playing the Alto Saxophone. My dream became a reality in Sixth Grade when I was able to pick up and learn an instrument. I ended up choosing the Tenor Saxophone because of its dark full sound. I progressed very quickly taking lessons from Jill Marasa, band director at Costa Catholic Academy, later that year I bought a Flute, and Clarinet.
The trumpets were the front position of the proposition, with the constant thumping of drums and ringing of the bells in the backdrop. Then the string instruments became the leading sound with the brass instruments being played in the
Rock Out! Towards the end of eighth grade, that was the time that I learned what type of music I was interested in, and it was rock music. Thinking nothing of how ‘strange’ it may be, I was happy. All until I hit the middle of ninth grade where some kid heard me talking about some of my favorite bands. “Isn’t rock music for white people?
My uncle has won best rock album in his band and my aunt has been on America’s Got Talent a few years back, you can say I have a music based family. My family has a wide range of careers, my mom is a teacher, my aunt is a composer for her band, and my dad lays down tile for various houses and other places. Then there is me, who is on YouTube and performs with my cello and piano in her room dreaming big. I have always dreamed about performing on stage with my cello or on Broadway on some stage in New York.
Also, there was an assortment of brass instruments trumpets, french horns, and trombones. The entire woodwind family was included in this performance as well. Although, The use of percussion instruments and the piano was extremely limited. The piano was only in use for certain ballads. The non professional
Joining band had an immense and almost immediate impact on my life. Before being in band I had never had a talent that I felt completely confident in. I enjoyed practicing and spent many hours trying to improve my musical ability. In
On Wednesday, the 18th of May, I attended and participated in the Final Band Concert of the year. Throughout the year, all band students continually practice pieces and the Final Band Concert is the only concert to have every band student in it from fifth grade all the way up to twelfth. This concert is always very special because it is both the first large concert for the fifth graders and the last for many students. The concert started from the Fifth Grade Band, then to the Junior 6th Grade, Advanced 7th and 8th Grade band, and finally to the High School Concert Band. The concert began exactly on time at 19:00.
Band has given me tons of friends and lessons in life that I will remember and carry on with me
