High School is a turning point for everyone at our age, social dynamics and education continue to change as we advance into different fields of interest. I branched into a variety of clubs to get a feel for what I may have a passion for. Entering into the Art Society, Interact, Autistic Painters, National Honors Society, Multicultural Club, etc., I became most involved in DECA. DECA is a marketing club made to enhance communication, marketing, and professional ethics and skills. I attended the district competition every year and always moved forward into states, however, I never applied myself. At first I was nervous standing alone in line waiting to be judged, but, as I entered the room I found that there was no better time to be myself and let my confidence radiate. No one was there to let me settle for less, or let me exploit their trophies, it was all me. When I got in front of the judge, it was just me talking with nothing holding me back. I held a real conversation with an adult which doesn 't seem like an accomplishment to any one else, but, to me it was a stepping stone to becoming who I am. From that one conversation, I placed in the top ten of all North Carolinian 's for my event and got to finally reassure my capabilities in being an adult woman. I had never been more proud of myself knowing that I am so much stronger than I had ever thought. After that week I found a job, started exploring colleges, and made new friends for the upcoming year. That one day changed my perspective on what is ahead for me and who I can be. That is why I aspire to attend the University of Chapel Hill to prove to myself that I am not average, but, I am exceptional and deserve to be at an exceptional
