Personal Narrative: Drowning

I am drowning. The sun above the water slowly grows fainter and my final breath leaves my lungs. I can not breathe. I can not breathe. I can not breathe. I try to swim to the surface when I feel my vision fading away… Everly jumps awake and, in the distance, she can hear her alarm clock beeping loudly. She sighs loudly when she realizes that, once again, Everly had dreamed of her ultimate fear, the fear of drowning. Blinking her eyes, she looked around the bedroom of the orphanage with all the empty beds, and it takes her awhile to realize what time it is. Oh no! Even though she thought that Tanner was being fake, it was the first time anyone had talked to her in a non-condescending way. She felt a feeling she never felt before. Why would anybody talk to me? I thought people did not think it was worth their time to talk to me. Not only did he talk to me, he also asked me to be his friend…but at the same time, I can not be sure that he even means it or not. He could be trying to bully me. She started to confuse herself and contradict her own statements. Everly quickly ran into the bathroom to sort her thoughts out. A couple days later, Everly was coming up for breakfast when she saw a group of orphans surrounding a table where Everly usually sat at. Confused, she started walking over to a different table but stopped when she saw who was sitting at her table. Tanner was there, speaking to everyone all at once, and once he saw Everly, he tried to call her over. But once he did, everyone, 20 or so kids, glared at her, daring her to even come close to Tanner. She shivered and she walked away sitting in the corner. He finally realized how corrupt the entire place was, to use the children with powers for their own good. Every time his friends asked if he was ok, he faked a smile. How in the world can I be ok when my best friend is out there, possibly getting hurt because I wanted to become her friend? It’s all my fault... wait... It’s not my fault, it’s this evil orphanage. We need to run away somewhere where they will never find us again, then everything will be ok!. Tanner thought
