“Ok.... I guess,” Anna replied in between bites of food. The rest of lunch was spent with Anna and Naomi sharing about family, and family history. Although Naomi did most of the talking. “Do ya want to come to my house after school? You could bring something from Russia to show me,” Naomi said at the end of lunch. Anna shakily made her way onto the stage, and she grabbed the microphone off of the pedestal. “I will be singing See You Again,” Anna announced. As she sung through the song, she closed her eyes and concentrated on each English word, perfecting each syllable. When she finished, there was silence, and then, the crowd erupted. They were louder than they were for anybody else before her. She could not contain her excitement, and a huge, whole faced smile quickly spread across her face. She walked off of the stage, and the crowd died down. I did it! Anna though as she sat in her chair watching the other few singers that were after her. Then Aubrey got called up, and Anna listened very closely. “I will be singing the song Stitches,” Aubrey said, flicking her long, golden hair off of her shoulder. As Aubrey sang, Anna decided to stop trying to make sense of the words, and just listened to the melody. But Aubrey’s voice was good, and the crowd applauded very loudly for her too. The long half hour of the judges sorting out the first five singers felt like a court case to Anna, and she was the defendant, waiting for the jury to reveal their answer.
