Angel

The morning of October 26, 2002, I woke up to a man banging on our front door. My parents talked to him as I stood quiet, behind their legs. My mother rushed into tears and began running around in circles, yelling at everyone who was in her way. I remember looking at my father and I saw him tearing up. I knew something was wrong, I’ve never seen my father cry before.

Hours passed and I see my family members start arriving. My birthday was in a couple of days and I thought they came for my party. But as I seen no one was putting decorations up, I knew they didn't come for that particular reason. From everyone around, I maked up my uncle. He was usually the first person to be here, but today he might be the last.

No one was on his case anymore, it was a cold case. It seemed like they had better things to do like ticketing people for jaywalking, and arresting you for having your headlights off, rather than solving a murder.

My mother was forced to go back into her field because of this, she placed the pieces together and she finally realized who did it. Once the news was delivered to my uncles, they would’ve flead to Porterville to find the man who murdered my uncle. If it wasn’t for my grandmother and with her exact words, “None of us are going to get our hands dirty, because the only one that can is God, and he rules on who has justice.”

Her words left a mark on everyone in the family. Because of her decision, the man who did it walks freely upon ourselves. She also stated that she forgives the man, she forgives him because that is the right thing to do.

She gave up on the case, but we didn’t. I found out more that the witnesses were tempered with their comments, if they objectify, the man was going to come after them and their families. Since then, no has came forward and spoken a word. They were forced to cut their tongues off, just like what the detective
