“Gavin, time to go,” Mom called out to me from downstairs.

“Okay, I just have to finish packing.” I was finally ten years old and could now volunteer at the Best Friends Animal Camp. I was spending the next three days high up in the mountain camp caring for dogs that needed extra love and attention. It was here that dogs were allowed to roam freely, safe and protected from the hard life they had experienced. They still, however, needed a home.

“Make sure you pack both work clothes and boots,” Mom reminded me.

“I have them,” I replied running downstairs. “I’m so excited,” I said as I tossed my gear in the car. “The camp letter states the dogs reside in “Dog Town.” “I will go there first.”
