Every time a substitute teacher gets ready for roll call, my friends from across the room snicker at me. I obviously knew they were laughing at how bad the teacher would butcher my name this time. I was quite used to correcting strangers with my name, and spelling it like a sloth every time someone needed to write it down. People always told me that my name sounded unique, but I never felt like I was special. In fact, I always thought my name brought me bad luck. From messed up documents due to my unique name, and the constant faces people would make when they don't appreciate a challenge, made me angry. I always viewed my name negatively, but now I am proud that I was named Krithika. The history of Krithika is quite interesting and it made me realize how significant it is in Indian culture.
