Courage Isn’t Relative As said by Dr. Robert Anthony, “[c]ourage is simply the willingness to be afraid and act anyway” (Brainyquote.com). This quote means that having courage is the ability to face your fear. Two people who share this trait, one fictional and one real, are Wiglaf from the epic poem Beowulf and Martin Luther King Jr. The first, Wiglaf, is a warrior who helps his king defeat a dragon. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist who helped improve the lives of many African Americans.
There seems to be a thin line between bravery and arrogance, especially in Chris McCandless case. Chris lived in nature for months. He started his journey with no plan and with only the dream to be out in nature. He dropped his life and set out for the wildness to be away from the all of society’s rules and expectations. It could be considered brave because most people leaving everything behind and going out into the unknown is very scary, but Chris didn’t have that sense of fear in him.
“Be brave, take risks and allow the unexpected.” This quote connects to my first story argument I am doing right now Amigo Brothers. But the whole main characters in all my other stories I'm doing are all brave because they all did or are doing something or did something that maybe no other person would do or say. Antonio and Felix from Amigo Brothers, Amy from Fish Cheeks, and Thomas from The Kill Order are all brave, but Thomas is the most brave. Antonio and Felix are brave because they both had to fight each other and they wanted to fight fair. Amigo Brothers, is about two men named Felix and Antonio who are best friends.
Many people in the world today show courage. Merriam-Webster defines courage as the mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. There were many characters in To Kill a Mockingbird that showed courage. Three of these characters include Atticus Finch, Jem Finch, and Arthur Radley.
Bravery is the act of facing problems right away instead of trying to escape them for as long as possible. For example, the Lord did not completely abandon creation after Adam and Eve disobeyed Him. Instead, He dealt with the problem. At Valley Forge, George Washington confronted the problem set before him by going to the Lord with it. Being brave is not taking care of a situation independently, although that is a form of bravery.
Most people see bravery as not being afraid of anything, but there is more to it than that. Bravery is standing up and speaking even if you are scared or standing up for what is right, though it might have consequences. On the website, https://www.viacharacter.org/survey/classes/Register?classCode=Baker, my first character trait was bravery. Character traits, as defined by https://study.com/academy/lesson/what-is-a-character-trait-definition-examples.html, is “A few descriptive adjectives used to describe someone's personality.” I also define character traits as traits that can round out and improve lives.
Courage, the ability to do something that frightens one. If only it were that easy. However, there was one day, during math, that I had decided to build up the courage to do something I had never done before. I, Michael Peña, was about to write my own history. I was going to ask my crush to be my girlfriend.
