History Shapes The World Everybody has a history. Everybody has experienced something that impacted them. History is what makes you, you. It shapes you. History is that ice sculptor that is very carefully whittling out the block of ice, making such precise movements that if you make one wrong move and take too much of a chunk off you have to start all over again. That is history. That is how it shapes you, by making precise etches just perfect enough to carve out who you are. My grandpa has lived through a tremendous amount of events, from the Civil Rights movement to the Cuban Missile to the Vietnam war. Each and every event has impacted him in one way or another.
He begins telling me about the war in Vietnam “I remember there being body counts on the news every night.” (Shull) Something needs to go here“Just knowing that if I were just one year older I would’ve been in that war, and that makes me realize how appreciative I am for everything.” (Shull) There were people who didn 't get to come home to their families after the war was over and I think that 's why my grandpa expressed that he felt so appreciative. He explains how he had friends in the war that he had to tell goodbye to before they left because he wasn 't sure if he would see them again. …show more content…

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a scary time, I couldn 't imagine what my grandpa’s emotions were during that time. “I remember having drills just incase there was a nuclear bomb to drop, we would hide under desks and cover our heads.”(Shull) he expresses his scarcity to me. “All I could do was hope that we wouldn 't get struck with one of those things.”(Shull) That’s probably why he has grey hair now, from all the stress he was put through back then. “There would be a horn that sounded and that would indicate to go under your desk.”(Shull) I can honestly say that I have never seen my grandpa scared or frightened, ever. I don’t know what he’s scared of, but then again what can you be scared of when you go through
