Personal Narrative: Meeting My Goals In Varsity Band

I’m sure that everyone has set at least one goal in their lifetime and accomplished it. Meeting your goals is extremely exciting and rewarding. When we, or someone else that we are close to, meet a goal, it is something to be proud of. Goals can be big, small, set for the near future, or set a lifetime away; either way, every goal is important and worth striving for. A recent goal of mine that I accomplished was making Varsity Band. In my school, our band is fairly big, meaning that, during concert season, it is necessary to split the band into two separate bands. When our directors decided that we needed to split, they wanted it to be fair, not having one band considered better than the other. The judges had announced before we began that our cut was only eight measures. This was bitter-sweet because it wasn’t very long, as we had all expected, yet, with only eight measures, it was a make it or break it 20 seconds. I began playing and was doing fairly well considering I was so nervous. As I just complete a couple of measures, the school bell goes off and I freeze. I couldn’t just keep playing during it because it would last a few of my eight measures, but you aren’t supposed to just stop during an audition. My heart started racing and it seemed like forever before the bell stopped ringing. I finished the piece shaking like a leaf and nervous that I had just ruined my chances. As I stood up, the judges thanked me for pausing for the bell. What a relief that was! At that point I only had to wait for the results. When I found out that I made it, I was ecstatic. I was so proud of myself and of the other players who tried out. All of my hard work had paid off and I couldn’t have been happier. I learned to never give up no matter what the odds may seem. Making this goal of mine was such an awesome accomplishment. Setting goals is one thing, but seeing them through to the end is what really matters. After all of my hard work and determination, I made it. But I also learned many lessons through the process and hope to continue to do so in the future. Don’t ever limit yourself
