I know that this event occurred 9 years ago, but I had to overcome some blinding obstacles and figure out what I was passionate about in life. Going to college straight out of high school was to chase a baseball dream and not an educational one. I wasted three years of a chance at an education by only worrying about baseball. After that, I chased money in the oilfield for four years and was eventually laid off. Being laid off was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

It took me what seem like forever to be able to live out my dream of coming back to Texas Tech University. I told myself from the beginning of my college career that no matter what happens I will finish where I started not knowing what would soon happen. During second semester of my freshman year my father lost his leg due to an accident. Those times were the hardest not only for him but also for our family. My father lost his job, my mother had to work more and I made the choice to go back home to help out financially.
This graduation has inspired my present identity. It also motivates me to stop assaults just thinking no parents were there, the doors were wide opened, and the music was so loud no one would hear. Anyone could have walked in and take kids. Not all kids luckily graduate.
My journey consisted of many good and bad times, and throughout the years I discovered my strengths and weaknesses. I made new friends, took on different tests, accomplished many things. My first year was my most difficult, being new to the school, but as the years went by, school became a more fun experience for me. Knowing that the 4 years of high school was a journey for me, I was able to brace myself for the difficult times to come and the rewards I was going to receive. At the end of the journey, I had gained a lot from these 4 years, but it also prepared me for my next journey, my journey through university.
Not only was I able to stay with my friends, but it also gave me a wake up call. The following year I got my grades up and got accepted and inducted to the National Junior Honor Society. It was my first day of high school. Because of a hurricane, school had been delayed two days. I checked my schedule, as I was starting on a Wednesday instead of Monday. My first class was Honors Spanish 2, which I expected to be the hardest, as not many freshmen took the class. It was overwhelming walking into a classroom filled mostly with sophomores; the teacher had a stern look also.
I realized how much I haven’t made of my life. I was always so scared of what was around the corner that I just kept walking the same hallway. I regret not living my best years like they were the best. Josh moved away 3 months into freshman year and I became more popular. People started to realize who I really was.
Just the thought of not knowing what I was supposed to do with the rest of my life made the last little bit of my senior year, very stressful. I then found out that not knowing and being undecided was perfectly okay and I was ready to begin my freshman year at Saint Petersburg College. Talking about graduating high school always seemed unrealistic because it was such a huge goal. After graduation, I had never felt so proud of myself.
Homecoming I almost completed my 12th. Yeah almost because I wasn’t confident enough that I would pass my math exam, which I fortunately did pass. So a day before returning home I had this house party at my friends place, which was exclusively thrown for me as a farewell. Though there were only 5 of us – my two best buddies and three of their cousins.
I realized I wasn’t a good student my behavior inside the classroom was horrible but I could recognize I had a really good connection with my teachers even though I was super noisy in class and always laughing basically I was like a clown, until today I still talk to them as my second parents.
