What is a sanctuary city? Sanctuary cities have polices, legal or unspoken, that restrict law enforcement from reporting a person’s immigration status. This policy began with Los Angeles in 1979 and now 30 other urban U.S. cities have enacted similar policies. These “sanctuary” cities have enacted legislation that is in direct violation of federal immigration law, ordinances that prohibit city employees or police officers from inquiring about someone’s immigration status. Furthermore, many more cities have unspoken sanctuary policies of “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

I am a republican because, I believe the power should be closer to the people of the United States of America, I believe in limited taxation, and I believe in a strong national defense. First, I am a republican because I believe in the federalist system of government. Basically, I believe in the fact that the power should be equally divided between the government and the people, and the people should have a say in the country’s actions. Also, I believe that the people should not have to pay too much taxes, for they work hard for their money and they should be able to enjoy their money made. I know that the country needs taxes, but just hold the taxes to minimum, and find the equilibrium where everyone agrees.

The American experience is not unfamiliar to me, I have been visiting America since I was a child and as a child I always wanted to move to America. My first visit here I fell in love with the culture specifically the freedom of expression. This implies that the main purpose of the editorials in these newspapers were to compel people to share their views, recruit a following as well as ensure that those that read them stuck around. Therefore, these newspapers exercised the inherent power of the press to create situations that would retain readership rather than to offer eloquently and factual articles, for instance, such newspapers would not report news that would flatter the opposition. The reason for this partisanship is attributed to economics as it has been proven that the newspapers engaged in business with parties, the government or the Congress amongst other bodies that greatly subsidized their operations.

The article “Mind Over Mass Media”, written by Professor Steven Pinker, describes the impact of media on human lives and brains. Pinker illustrates the benefits people gain from using the worlds quickly increasing technology and media. Pinker suggests that today’s technology such as, PowerPoint, Google, and other forms of social media can actually enhance and bring more intelligence to the mind, instead of being detrimental. Critics believe that the many different forms of media can lower intelligence. However, Pinker declares that scientists are using all of this technology everyone else is using, and are still discovering new things.

Americans experience some sort of bias every day, however, media bias is likely the most prevalent. Media can be biased towards liberals, conservatives, or any other political leaning.
