Over the course of my life, I have had my own experiences with psychological disorders that I never completely understood. Chapter 14 titled Psychological Disorders, covers the range of mental illnesses from the causes, treatments, to the differences between them. In my personal life, I have a long history of being around those affected by mental illness. These people range from my parents to my first roommate in college and myself, and through this chapter, I 've found a better understanding of these psychological disorders. The first of the psychological disorders I’ve come in contact with is bipolar disorder. Both my mother and my father are diagnosed with this disorder but for different reasons that this chapter has further explained. I previously thought that each had the disorder for the same types of causes. I found that while I knew my mothers was caused by a chemical imbalance or a biological response, my father 's cause is psychodynamic due to his bipolar disorder stemming from his rough childhood where there were deep issues with his parents. Each suffers from manic episodes, usually starting at one extreme of either extreme anger or frustration and ending at being extremely happy.

Lastly, we have me and my struggle with GAD. While I 've been diagnosed and seen a counselor from a young age, I guess you get a different perspective whenever you read about it. For instance, I am very tired all the time, have trouble sleeping, and I 'm almost never focused whenever I experience extreme bouts of worry. But because my anxiety does overlap with depression and frequent panic attacks, I wouldn 't directly attribute to the anxiety disorder first. Reading about this allowed me a new perspective on this aspect of my life. My biggest affliction is overgeneralizing or jumping to conclusions without really knowing the whole situation. This isn’t something I didn’t even know had a real title until reading
