Given that I was born and raised in Puerto Rico by two Haitian parents, I’ve always had a strong concern for the poor living conditions in developing countries. For this reason, I am deeply passionate for international development focused on education, human rights and health. I consider working with the Peace Corps one of the highest possible callings. My wonderful years in academic philosophy studying Ethics and Foreign Languages have honed my ability to communicate well and sharpened my research skills. Yet, my professional goals in international affairs and development require a broad, multidisciplinary approach to program analysis, research and theory.
My first day here at Job Corps seemed very long. When I first arrived in the front I had to sit in a little room close to the front office I had to sit there with a couple of other kids. After sitting there for a while security came and took all of our bags to the security room to check for anything we couldn’t have. After that, we had to follow some staff who took us to get our uniform which took a minute because everyone took turns to use the bathroom to change. They gave us 3 pairs of polo shirts and 3 pair of regular school slacks.
My father immigrated from Guatemala when he was 19 to support his family back home. My mother, from El Salvador while fleeing the revolutionary war. They have worked hard, exceptionally hard, for me not to pursuit my dreams of joining the Peace Corps. This is a I considered filling out an application to join the Peace Corps straight after college but glad I waited. I have gained experience, but more importantly, I have matured mentally and emotionally and I am capable of understanding what it would require of me to leave my family, home, and career for two years and I am ready.
4. How can you support and be a source of strength for your parents during challenging times? 5. What lessons or values have you inherited from your parents, and how can you pass them on to future
Just those things alone have made them into very inspirational people to some. In fact, they may be the greatest inspiration of all time, a true definition of child looking up to his parents. Right away, both of my parents had high expectations for me. At a young age college was instilled in me as the only possible route I could take; which was okay because as an adolescent I held great pride that both my parents went to college.
Leadership is the ability of one to organize or lead a group of people. A leader should be respectful, a leader is bound to know what goal is attempted to be reached. My favorite leadership quote is by Chris Hadfield, “Ultimately, leadership is not about glorious crowning acts. It 's about keeping yourself and people around you focused on a goal and motivated to do the best to achieve goals in life, especially when the stakes are high and the consequences matter greatly. It is about laying the groundwork for others ' success, and finally standing back and letting them shine.”
It is because of them that I aspire to be a college graduate, ready to head out into the world and help others while making my parents

Eight years ago I walked into a Navy recruiter's office and said, " If I join today, when is the soonest I can go to boot camp? " I did not know what to expect. However I was sure of one thing, and that was that I wanted to join the United States Navy. As those eight years ensued, the Navy began to mold me physically and mentally. Some of the changes I underwent were positive, and others were rather uncouth.
What is life’s most extraordinary pleasure? For many, money, power, and/or fame come to mind, and the idea of helping others does not register. It seems for every person eager to help, there are millions ready to hurt or disregard those in need. Nevertheless, the world is not beyond salvation; there are numerous individuals willing to give their time and labor to transform the world into a better place for all. These devoted people are volunteers, and they believe life’s most extraordinary pleasure is the joy of helping others.
Having formed an opinion of what goals to achieve provided direction and an ethical base to live my life by. My Father has influenced me in what it means to look outside and consider the values that are communicated in my teachings, charitable actions, devotion to family, as a pillar in the community, and leadership. Size of family, my sister and I an only son, were born in California, and raised in Florida, further in my twenties is when our family moved to Missouri and I joined the Army.
