I was so excited to begin high school and attend the same school my father and uncles had attended. But, the beginning of my high school career was very difficult and challenging for me. In the beginning of my freshman year, I had a very hard time finding a group of friends that I could trust. The idea of popularity drowned me when I entered high school and I began to loose myself. I had a hard time focusing on my studies and this caused my grades to plummet.
In my first three years of high school, I have had many struggles that have taken me on a different track than what I expected. My freshman year I had received four concussions. Some of these were sports related while others just happening by accident. These accidents left me missing tons of school and made me fall behind. Classes were hard to keep up with mentally as well as emotionally.
Mid-junior year the level of going to college dropped at an all time low. I believe that giving up was the easiest thing in the world. My grades where low, and It was too late to turn back and fix them. By the time March arrived, everyone was cramming in all the knowledge for their AP test. From getting tutors to pulling all nighters to learn a month 's worth of materials.
During my freshman and sophomore years of high school, I was a dancer at a local studio and at Arts and Communications Magnet Academy (ACMA). Dancing was fun for me, I met a lot of great friends and was able to express myself through art. I genuinely loved going to ACMA. But, dancing and attending ACMA led me to meet someone who forced me into situations I never expected to be in. Although I wish I had not ever been forced into those circumstances, there is a silver lining to it.
During my last year of Middle School I was diagnosed with depression. This illness caused me to discourage my abilities and it deeply affected my social skills. At the same time I was also being bullied by other kids at school. I remember silently crying every day as I walked home from the bus stop. When I was first diagnosed, the doctors told me that isolating the problem was a good thing.
How was my developing education during Freshman year and Senior year? When growing up in my house there were two different types of language based on parents by my dad only speaking Spanish and my mom speaking both English and Spanish. And at the age of 8 years old my mom and dad took me and siblings to Mexico and studying, but learning new ways how to write and read. Made me suffer a lot, even though my mother and father always made me practice and not forgetting allowed me to understand many things. And at the age of 13 years old my mom and my dad brought me back to the United States to study and for me it was really difficult because I was already used in writing and ready in one language for me it was basically like for me knowing a new
Narrative: I moved to Kansas City, Kansas seven years ago. It all started when I was in 6th grade with these girls. I was a different race then them. They thought it would be cool to mess and try to get rid of the white girl. One day, they decided to try everything they possibly can to get me kicked out.
I am in the middle of my freshmen year as I write this Narrative. Now, that you are reading this I am a sophomore and you are a freshmen. I will be telling you what you can do to make your year or years better here at NorthView High School. I remember thinking it was going to be scary I thought I wasn’t going to have that many friends. But, the truth is Middle school and High school is not that different then you think.
I was barely going to classes, I would leave school and go home or to the store. I got suspended twice before I got my transcript. Once I did get them I started going to classes but that was long after I started skipping classes and leaving school to go home. I messed up the first and second quarter grades was terrible I was just an honor roll student at Shaw, now at Collinwood I have F’s. When it was third quarter I got back on my game went to school every day and on time, and went to all my classes.
Since freshman year, I struggled with my grades. I've never been the smartest or fastest person in school, but I am very hardworking when it comes to homework and classwork. I try my absolute best and even when I get discouraged I pick myself up and try again. Freshman year my mom was getting surgeries for her cancer, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, and my parents and I were having a very rough patch. I faced abuse as a young adult from my father which left me with very hard memories and stress to get over.
Academically I was doing good enough to be in the upper half of the grade but never with my full effort so I was never actually
Service is what I love to do. Throughout my high school experience, I have had the opportunity to work in my community which has lead to many rewarding experiences. I have been an active member and Vice President of Latinos in Action (LIA). In LIA, I have had the extraordinary chance to work not only with Hispanic students, but our larger community. We worked with Westvale, West Jordan, and Riverside elementary schools; tutoring students with their assignments and homework.
Junior High years were pretty… interesting to say the least. Seventh grade was my first year in the high school. Yes, I was pretty nervous going into a school with kids who were much, much older than me. I knew I wasn’t the only one nervous. That kind of helped my brain chill out a bit.
My first day of high school as a freshmen in a new level of education Is what I was thinking when I woke from slumber that morning in bed. Stepping foot on the campus wasn’t even the beginning, taking the school bus in the morning is where the first taste of being a freshmen and actually starting and being an high school student. I started to get really nervous and a sense of reality hit me. Walking towards the bus stop all I see is a huge group of high school students waiting around for the bus, calm and cool as I try to stay to be I approach the waiting area not knowing what to I’m getting into.
Over a long period of time, I didn’t realize how serious high school meant before heading to college. My older brother didn’t do well in high school and he was the only person to look up to at the time. While attending elementary learning the basics came to me gradually and as each year passed by I was more interested in why my older brother attended a different school at a certain age/grade. My first year in middle school as an experience as a whole wasn’t what my older brother described and I expected the same for high school. My older brother did graduate high school but didn’t take the measures to attend a university or community college.
