Personal Narrative: My Growing Up As A Military Kid

I was born in Fort Polk, Louisiana, an infamous army base, however I cant remember this period much because my family relocated back to Houston before I could walk. So instead of growing up as a typical military kid, I developed the habits of a city kid. As one would expect, coming up in America’s fourth largest city I was a very small fish in the ocean, so my childhood was very competitive and extremely fast paced. With so much happening around from minute to minute I generally didn’t have the pleasure of sitting around to contemplate my reality. Even in school I remember having to constantly compete with my classmates just to receive the least amount of attention. As stated, I have always been very adventurous so the activities I enjoyed as a child often involved me being outdoors where I played sports, rode bikes or attended recreational events. Not only did I play sports I enjoyed watching them just as much. I was a fanatic spectator for every major team sport. I’ve never been partial to any particular sport but my top picks were those that I also played which were baseball, basketball, football and soccer. Outside of playing sports, at age 5 my father taught me how to ride a bike and I have been cycling ever since. When I grew tired of riding around the neighborhood I began venturing all over the place in efforts to keep biking love alive. As a kid I biked inside national parks, along bayous and even made my own trails in rural areas. When I wasn’t on the field playing sports or the sidewalk riding my bike I enjoyed spending quality time with my family at both seasonal and recreational events such as the zoo, circus, park and holiday festivals. Believe it or not but Houston which is considered as the oil and gas capital of the world is also ranked as one of America’s top destinations for recreational events and activities.
