I served my two years in what was called the Great California Ventura Mission. What an experience it was for me to labor and work in such a beautiful part of our country. The weather on average year round was about typically 75 degrees Fahrenheit. This is due to the ocean breeze that cools the desert landscape to become a paradise.
After years of waiting and preparing we started on the journey to the west. We made our way to Independence, Missouri to go on the Oregon Trail which was laid by traders and trapers. While there I became familiar with George Wilson who was also a working family man. A lot of families left together making the trail busy and causing jams..
Cliff jumping in Colorado Springs was a thrilling experience. On a sunny afternoon, we rowed towards the cliff in our raft. It loomed above the rushing water of Arkansas River, blocking out the sun, like a giant over a pond. We pulled to the edge and quickly trekked up the cliff and readied ourselves for the jump. When I was ready, I walked to the edge and took a deep breath and jumped.
Off to Tahoe One day when I was visiting Tahoe my mom called a family meeting and she said we were all as a family going to move to Incline Village. I started crying on the inside but on the outside I was showing much exitement. I felt really sad but I didn’t want to disappoint my mom so I never told her.
The wind blows in my face, and I can smell the fresh sea air. However, it is but little relief to the seasickness I am feeling on this crowded ferry with tons of other 7th graders. At least I am with friends. Kiersten, Holly, Jillian, Kayli, Kristen, Kailynn, and I are all going to the Catalina Island Marine Institute. It was a long drive to California, and now we’re on this boat.
We were on our way to New Mexico to visit my grandparents. At this time, I lived in Texas so it was not that far and they lived by the state line of Texas, the North West side of Texas. It always took us about four hours to get there but this trip was a little different. We were in tornado season so you know where this is going it could have been like two and a half hours. Then we hear on the radio a tornado alert luckily there was a rest point with a gas station so we stopped and went inside I was only like nine years old but remember this day.
For this pursuit we went to the Black Ridge Canyon Wilderness Area. Our leaders were Ben, Conner and Louisa. We attended this trip from October 9th through the 11th. This trip was very relaxing. It was hard to give up control and be in a group situation.
When I visited Lewis and Clark I felt like this where I belong. As a writer, I’m always searching for a place to learn and create, and for me that place is Lewis & Clark. Lewis & Clark reminds me of a writing camp over 800 miles away from home called Fishtrap, where I found myself feeling at home surrounded by strangers that I got to know as kind, friendly, serious, soulful, curious, hard working, open minded and inspired writers all during the week we spent together. This is what I feel in Lewis & Clark. Although I’ve merely scratched the surface of it I, it feels like home
After flying in the blackness of space for 54.6 million kilometers in just 260 days, we finally approached the red planet. It looked as if I was looking through a telescope from home. Of course, as we got closer, we saw more detail, more craters, and more. Before coming here, I have been able to see many canyons, eclipses, volcanoes, and other things, as well as hearing how geological features on Mars can be taller than Mount Everest, deeper than the Grand Canyon, etc. That is one of the minor reasons why I am here, to see the sizes for myself.
April, 1849 Being on the trail for about a week has brought unexpected holdups. First off the tall grass that scrapes my bare legs as I walk. Lena, Lilly and I all have plenty of gashes from burs and thorns. Our first landmark was Alcove Springs. We never stopped, although it was nice to think that there were people before us taking this journey.
Some things you experience in life stick with you for a long time. A family trip I took to Durango, Colorado was one of those experiences for me. There are so many different things that made it so memorable for me. Waking up surrounded by trees, hearing the faint sound of water running from a nearby stream, and finishing this perfect setting were the mountains towering over it all. Durango Colorado has some of the most enjoyable surroundings I've ever experienced.
Although it’s entertaining to stay indoors and play video games, eventually one finds the experience to lack excitement. This calls for going outside into the blistering desert and spend time at my favorite recreational place; Camelback Mountain. Hiking Camelback Mountain is rewarding, because of the feeling of accomplishment and happiness, and it’s an enjoyable way to hang out with friends while relaxing outdoors. To being with, reaching the top of Camelback Mountain is a rewarding experience. That is, because after reaching the top a sense of deep accomplishment and pride overcomes you.
It was Saturday morning, and as usual I was up getting ready to go hiking. Every other Saturday I go hiking with my dog, Dell, who is really hyper. He loves going, and sometimes he will even wake me up. The place we go to hike is called Red Stone Hiking. It is a really popular place in the state of Georgia.
INTRODUCTION: Attention Step: According to the article “Exercise Makes You Younger,” “Research shows that physical inactivity can cause premature death as well as chronic disease and disability" (54). Do you ever experience daily pressures that don’t seem to go away such as stress, anxiety, or even just nervousness from your job, school, or just life in general? If so you’re not alone it was recorded in 2011 that 22.7% of Canadians 15 and older reported that most days where “quit a bit or even extremely stressful” from daily life activates (Statcan.gc.ca, 2013). I would fit that category most days myself being a university student and a Part time worker with due dates and what seems like never ending bills. I like to use visual escape to relieve my day to day pressures, by visiting many areas in Nanaimo that make me feel more relaxed and ready for the next day. Areas such as Sugar Loaf Mountain, Pipers Lagoon, and Swy-a-lana lagoon offer
