For my senior project I chose to job shadow at Joy Global. When I was deciding who and what jobs to shadow I chose a few that interested me and that I thought I could see myself majoring in, at college. I wasn 't just doing these shadows to get them out of the way and tell myself, good I 'm glad I got those out of the way. Instead, I thought that it was a great idea to get a hands on experience of some jobs that I was interested in and get to know what it’s like to have a full-time job and see what the average work day consists of. The shadows I went on consisted of: Mary Norris, who is an Infrastructure Analyst, Jeff Snyder, a IT Engineer, and Cheyne Kunselman, an Engineering Systems Analyst. My next shadow I spent some time with Jeff Snyder, who is an IT Engineer. Jeff, as well as Mary spends all of his time mostly in a cubicle at Joy Global. His main work consists of having to undergo training by site and help for the transition of various technical reports. Also to prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and customer related, supplier reports. The qualifications needed for this job is experience in computer hardware/software and at least an Associate 's degree. What Jeff studied in college was Business Management and he said that that’s a great major for the job he has now. When I asked Jeff what he liked best about his job he stated it was the people and what he didn’t like was the time management and trying to get a lot of things done in a small amount of time. I also asked him what advice he would give to people considering this career and he replied with “to get a degree in math and to minor in some sort of IT or Technology.” As an average salary, IT Engineers make around $80,000 a year. While on my shadow Jeff did a great job of showing me what he did throughout his day and I learned a lot from him.
