There have been numerous amounts of important events throughout American history, from settlements to famous wars, many of them are worth traveling back in time and viewing in person for. If I were given an opportunity to time travel and witness one of these events in person, I would choose to visit the origins of the new world, in Jamestown, Virginia. It began on May 14, 1607, when roughly 100 men who had left England landed on a narrow peninsula in the James River, where they would live out their lives in Jamestown. The settlement had a variety of attractions which pulls me into wanting to time travel to see it, one including watching the settlements first leader, Captain John Smith in action. Another thing that catches my attention is the way that Jamestown was built and its location. Lastly, the most important reason of all is the fact that it was the first permanent settlement in America. A great leader always has a story behind his name, before and while in leadership. Captain John Smith, one of Jamestown’s first leader, had an interesting origin and way of being a leader that I would have enjoyed seeing first hand. The site for Jamestown was picked based on the instructions given by the Virginia Company: it was surrounded by water on three sides and was far inland, a great spot that could be used as a defensive position against any anticipated attacks. The fort was built in a triangle, mainly because it was naturally in a triangle form, but also due to their quick need for defense, it was faster to build three walls instead of four. Viewing the settlement, or any settlement in this case, in a triangular form would be very interesting given that you don’t see triangle shaped complexes very
