I'm a cautious person. Before this summer I had never stepped outside of my comfort zone. The longest I had been away from my family was for a week in the fifth grade when my entire class went to camp, and even then I was surrounded by familiar faces and friends. That is why when I was awarded the honor to attend the American Legion Auxiliary Girls' State camp, I was wary of experiencing such a big change. After being dropped off at the MSU dorms on the first day I was left with a HUGE feeling of angst and dread.
I do not remember my first time watching a televised hockey game or my first time going to watch the Blues at Scottrade Center, but I do know that I was hooked. My dad used to to purchase three tickets from a lady at his work to one Blues game a year. She was a season ticket holder and every season she upgraded her seats one row closer to the ice. When I went to my first game, where we sat, who St. Louis played against, or who won are all beyond my recollection, nevertheless I know that whatever events had transpired, I wanted to watch more hockey.
It 's all about finding my home away from home. I love South Carolina and I 'm not ready to leave yet. I am ready to explore the other beauties South Carolina has to offer, and USC Upstate 's campus is beautiful. When I first heard about USC Upstate, I knew I wanted to because I want to grow and experience the cultures of the diverse population around the area and a growing school like USC Upstate will help me to see all I could all around
On the edge of my seat I can feel my heart racing, just waiting for the clock to run down. We’re up by two and though I was watching the game at home, I could feel the energy of the crowd radiating through the television. Ten, nine, eight… the crowd begins to count down, my brother and I join in shouting, “FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO, ONE!” The buzzer sounds and the roar of the crowd comes rumbling through the speakers. The Chicago Blackhawks have just won, for the third time in six years, the 2015 Stanley Cup Championship, and
Allow me to introduce myself, I am Bryan Le, a freshman that is currently attending a charter school by the name of “Downtown College Prep”. I am currently living with my parents and two younger siblings, one brother and one sister. Over my years in a public elementary school, I had seen others being happy because of one’s help and that made me feel happy inside. I then thought of ways to help others when I stumbled upon the fact that doctors help people everyday, which seemed as a great way to help many people so that they may continue to be happy in life. As I entered Downtown College Prep, I was urged by the staff to explore my options and to set a goal in life.
All my life I had dreamed of following in my mother 's footsteps and becoming a UConn Huskie. I had watched every UConn sporting event with my parents for as long as I can remember. I 've acquired many autographs of players over the years and even obtained a basketball signed by Jim Calhoun. I remember the devastation I felt when I learned the major I was pursuing was not offered at UConn. I had graduated high school convinced I was going to be an accomplished architect.
I have been playing Ice Hockey for 12 years now, and I have loved every second of it. Well, almost every second, I’m kind of a sore loser. However, I still love the game. I love how in a game, one play can change the entire atmosphere of the game, whether its a goal that lights up the crowd, a hit that keeps the glass shaking, or a bad call by the ref that has the entire arena booing at the guy in stripes. But most of all, I love how the game has a way of comforting those who play it, like me.
My first Carnegie Hall experience wasn’t what I expected it to be. As I entered the balcony of the Stern auditorium, I was amazed by the beautiful design of the white and gold walls and the beautiful red seats. Upon looking at my Concert Quick Guide I noticed the first symphony Leon Botstein was conducting was Arnold Schoenberg! When I flipped the guide to observe what else was in store for me, my eyes opened wide as I saw Mozart! I felt as if I wasn’t completely ignorant towards the classical music world, here I am in Carnegie Hall for the first time and I have a general background of the two original composers of Chamber Symphony No. 2 and Great Mass in C Minor.
If you’re like me, then when you see your career portrayed in movies or television, you get hyper-critical and pick apart every detail. Nothing is ever right. No one would ever act that way in that situation, no matter how much it fits the plot or the character. So you wave your hand, roll your eyes, rant, rave, and absolutely refuse to throw in the towel and let the fight die. The worst part is that you know better.
To achieve your goals you must put in the work, you cannot just show up and win a championship. Again you cannot just start a business, and expect to be best selling business immediately. Football teaches this lesson of hard work because kids are naturally going to want to win, or be the best at their football position. Yet to do either one of those they must learn to work hard and get extra practice in.
I am deciding to apply to the University of Wisconsin-Madison because I am intrigued by the opportunities the university has to offer. During my time at UW-Madison I hope to participate in intramural sports, get a job, receive an excellent education, and much more. The city life offers a diverse culture and allows you to learn about and to appreciate life. As I want to be a part of the nursing program I would utilize the opportunity to work at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and to work alongside other students trying to achieve the same goal as I am.
I attended the Stadium Party during the week of AGOGE for freshmen. Everyone was given a "Stadium Party" shirt as souvenir. It was held in the URC Greatroom. It was supposed to be a required event but I don 't think everyone went. We were served dinner, which consisted of cheeseburgers and hotdogs.
I also got the chance to meet a lot of the coaches and build good relationships with the athletes. I was able to go to baseball games, lacrosse games, the spring football game, and
The college has assisted in my growth both academically as well as socially. I have nearly completed my associates degree. I have participated the college 's bowling team and SSS (Student Support Services). As well as becoming a member of my community college 's chapter of Phi Theta Kapp.
During my years playing hockey as a kid, I experienced many stressful situations both first hand and observed through teammates and coaches. One occasion in particular stands out, mostly due to how I was able to influence it. I was playing goal for a junior hockey team in BC, and my goalie partner at the time was very intense and emotional person. Certain things that were seemingly insignificant to me and to the other teammates, he took personally and often let it affect his state of mind and even his performance at times. Things like, players shooting pucks into his net at then end of drills and players celebrating or cheering after scoring goals in practice would really get under his skin.
