What is America to you? Democracy is what first would come to mind, it is the core value of what America stands for. Being democratic has given the United States of America a title of a leader of change by its people. Recent survey information from local University of California, Santa Barbara students, the millennials feel as though the democratic system is up to our values with improvement of representation toleration in our nation.
My identity has always felt inextricably linked to what Miami is. A city that is teeming with immigrants, a city with dreams stacked and slopped atop each other, and a city that is living proof of the failed American dream. I say so because of my early observation that generation after generation of immigrants often seemed to stay trapped in dead end jobs; I saw this within my own family – within my grandmother, my aunts and uncles, and even my cousins. Here it was even within my own family tree the deep implicit message that there was no way out of our socioeconomic level. When I made it into an Ivy League college, it was a message that was slowly re-enforced by the fact that my demographic was the most represented in the custodial staff rather than within my own classmates.
This is everything I could think of, Stable but persistent. The land I grew up in.; the rich soil I set foot on. I stood there with my window wide open in deep thought. This is one of those days where I am stuck admiring the world. I go back to sitting in front of my blank TV screen.
Awoke from a brave man who sailed the sea. An idea, a chance of hope, was born. Battled for an identity of prosperity for all, consequently we rose up to become America the land of inalienable liberties straight from our maker. Growing despite dividing America has always overcame division growing smarter and tougher through her conflicts. We truly became America when all of America got equality and so America gave down rights to all her people.
I envision a nation our founding fathers would have expected to emerge from the seeds of freedom and responsibility they planted in the American soil more than 200 years ago. America is a hopeful nation, secured and blessed by God and enlivened by faith. Where you go to your small hometown church every Sunday morning with your family or how ever else you worship your God or whoever you follow any way you want. This America leads the world in religious freedom, where faith is cherished and protected in private and public. It leads in family stability, where heterosexual marriage is the backbone of society.
America, the land of the free. This place is amazing and we should try to keep it that way. America has a future and I hope it holds something special. There are different ways i would want this country to improve as i grow old. This is America and it deserves to be the best country in the world, but we can’t be the best if we don’t do the best for America.
The America I believe in is a wonderful place, much like childhood, where our country is spared from everything else going around it. Safe from the danger, and oblivious to anything else that might harm us, yet still cautious to be safe. The America I believe in would be safe, no one having to worry about getting hurt just by going outside, and while this may be nearly impossible, I believe our country, being one of a kind, can accomplish this. Our country is free, yet safe, advanced, yet modest, and for these reasons I have faith that America can pick itself up when it falls and keep going as though it never happened, can continue to advance despite threats from elsewhere, and despite what happens, our country has left a mark on this world,
Being an outsider from The United States I have always been fascinated by the lifestyle and vast diversity that this country possesses. I hold great admiration for their leaders and the way they somehow always manage to do what’s best for their country. Although, naturally no one is perfect. From what I can perceive America is mostly a place where freedom, of any type, is actually part of the daily lives of their citizens. From speaking their minds freely to being able to conduct their lives as they please.
America is the place that seems to give opportunities and equal changes to all. They have more freedom than others (but not total freedom). America is a united people working together. I believe America is a place where all people have a chance to succeed in life. I also believe that in America people have the freedom to stand up for their beliefs and fight for them.
A country who is full of hope to overcome while carrying heavy burdens. A country who is still proud to hold up their American Flag. A country who salutes their mighty soldiers and is patriotic for now and for years to come. Where we build up our young to be appreciative and respectful to veterans. A country who is strong like a statue and can stand through heavy winds and devastating storms.
It was once said that “America is the greatest, freest and most decent society in existence“. It is an oasis of goodness in a desert of cynicism and barbarism; this country, once an experiment unique in the world, is now the last best hope for the world“. Today, many Americans share these sentiments. In fact, for many, America is more than a country; it is also a philosophy and a way of life. Since its inception, the founding fathers believed that they could create a nation unlike any other.
I envision the future America as a sanctuary that will protect and love the citizens of this country more than it is shown in the society of today. I imagine that the violence and chaos that is present today will eventually be defeated if we can conquer it with compassion and understanding. When we provide good work ethics along with focus, America will be built up the way it was intended to be. The thirty-third president of the United States, Harry S. Truman, stated, “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.”
