What is the event? Was the same question I had in mind once I heard we were supposed to attend to it. I had no idea it was an event that evolved bikes and family. It was an amazing event in which people expressed themselves through their bikes. Having the opportunity to volunteer I got to witness many people getting together just riding bikes wither with friends or children and in some cases I would see people with dogs too. It was an event created to promote a no car day and promote other ways of transportation. Overall, CicLAvia’s goal was to connect participants into healthier lifestyles or give people the opportunity to interact with others, things that can not be possible by car. That was literally our opportunity to interview her since she looked stressed sweaty and tired on that bike, she just looked terrible. I asked her how long have you been involved in this event? She told that she’s been in charge of the event for four years and that she just loves it even though it is a very tiring process since she is just up and down on her bike handling volunteers or problems that are encountered. She said that although her phone rings all day she believes those four years is just the start. I also got to ask her what she loves about the event and what does she get out of this? She automatically told me that she does it because it is a time when the community and different ethic groups get together. That It is that time when she sees no judgment within people since everyone is trying to express themselves through their bikes. She said it was an event in which people could enjoy a family ride. When our shift was done I went up to a patrol officer named Oscar Gonzalez, he was ones who would take charge of stopping people and the ones who would solve problems. I asked him the same questions and he was pretty much nothing but honest. He told me that he has done this job for about 5 years.
