I grew up in a city called Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Population was approximately 200,000 which is considered the largest city in South Dakota. It was relatively small for me, because I do consider myself a city girl. Growing up in Sioux Falls was rough, the four season weather was always bipolar and you never knew what to expect from it. The city itself is urban, with many tall buildings downtown. The environment in South Dakota is very important because of the crops and other resources that it has to offer to the nation. Our land is very valuable to keep the crops flowing through the United States, also the roads were very important to my daily life. The roads were luckily updated all the time which made my commute to school that was on …show more content…
I interacted with my parents, my classmates, and employees on a daily basis. My house was somewhat sustainable, we had recycling trucks that came to our house every two weeks to take our recycling bins. Other than that, not much was considered “sustainable”. Also Sioux Falls has a big river that flows through the middle of the city, which is used for fun activities such as kayaking, fishing, and other water activities. My city was a self-relying community, all of the other little cities around us depended on us for resources and other daily needs. My ultimate ideal sustainable city or neighborhood would be to have very accessible ways to walk or bicycle through the streets, promoting this way of transportation will reduce air pollution, congestion of the roads, but will …show more content…
I choose to live my life in a way that would benefit the earth, not to destroy it. I walk to the places I need to go whenever I can, or use the public transportation to create less congestion on the roads. I do take the light rail system to my downtown campus twice a week, which is very effective to get to point A to point B in the matter of time that it would take to drive. I would like to think that I am being eco-friendly as much as I can when the opportunity is upon me. I would like to think that the city that I live in now, which is Tempe, is eco-friendly minded. They have a very good transportation system, plus on top of that most of the citizens here are students so we like to walk everywhere on and off campus. Carpooling is valued in Arizona, which is why they created the HOV lane on the freeways to promote carpooling rather than driving alone. This helps with using our resources to our advantage because we do take up most of the population of the town. Now moving on to how I vision my future, one way is to change the way people take our Earth’s resources for granted. They do not think about the future or what could happen if we do not change for the better. Most citizens are living as though, we have all the resources handed to us, but what they do not know is that we are running out of resources as we speak. After we run out, it will be very hard to get them
