“Huddle up girls,” Coach Morgan shouted.
I ran into the huddle, the wet and dewy grass brushing my cleats. I looked over at Abby, her sad, brown eyes staring back at me.
She probably saw it too, I thought.
“I just found out some bad news.” Coach said, a sad look on her face.

“Come on, Anna!” I heard from the crowd as I dribbled the bright orange soccer ball down the field.
It was the first game of the season and we were up by seven in the first fifteen minutes. I knew our team was good, but not that good! I was playing center defense because we were up by so much but I usually play right forward. I had scored two of the seven goals but Coach Morgan wanted other people to get a chance to score.

“I was thinking about inviting Abby and Sarah over to help if they wanted to tomorrow afternoon,” I returned. Please realize that I am asking for them to come over, I thought. “If you’re asking to invite them over,” she said, “Then yes.” Ah-ha, I thought, She took the bait.

They came over the next day very excited. We started by making vanilla cupcakes with strawberry frosting. I put the flour in the bowl while Abby and Sarah got the other ingredients. Abby opened the dark vanilla extract, it’s lovely scent hitting me with delight.
“How much of this stuff, Anna?” Abby questioned me, holding up the vanilla.
“A teaspoon,” I responded as I got the baking powder, salt, butter, eggs, and milk.
Abby put the vanilla in as Sarah opened the sugar and measured it. I measured the rest of the ingredients and put them in.
