This is a great question that I will answer. How does place shape the individual? Well, I believe that place can have a huge impact on people and how they later grow up. I’ve heard that in the place where you grow up you can make very strong connections and relationships with that place and it becomes a part of your identity. I believe that it’s true because I love my home and I’ve lived there my whole life and have grown to love all my neighbors in my community and I feel like my home has had a huge impact on my future and the way I grew up.

All my life I have lived in the small town of Walkertown, which is only about twenty minutes away from Winston-Salem. Five years ago Walkertown was small and you had to go to the next town over, Kernersville, if you wanted to go shopping for clothes or go out for dinner. Now, Walkertown is a lot more developed and less rural. However, it is nowhere near as developed as Winston-Salem, especially downtown. Winston-Salem is a built up city with a lot of impervious surfaces.
Mark Twain's "Life on Mississippi" is a memoir of Mr. Twain's experiences when he was a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River. The book is about history and also about his memoir of his moments. Mark Twain basically tells the story of the river, his own personal story with the river, and also about him growing up Its very different compared to Fredrick Douglas, who wrote a memoir of how his life was as a slave. Fredrick uses a lot of narrative to write a paper on abolishing slavery when he tells the reader his journey and battle to become a freeman.

The Union had won the civil war, so the next step was to begin to mend the broken relationship between the north and the south. Though historians cannot agree on when it began, there is merit in saying that it started before the end of the Civil War. After victory, had been solidified for the Union, attention of President Lincoln turned towards reconstruction.
Growing up in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, I have been surrounded by ‘black success’ instead of just ‘success’ for the duration of my life. The blacks in my area are equally as successful, if not more accomplished than, the non-blacks, but we are always titled separately and put into a captive box. The box we are held in told young girls that they should aspire to be athletes, cosmetologists, or plain unemployed. The same box told young men that they could only be considered “somebody” if they were able to catch a ball well. These are occupations we would ‘best be suited for’; these are occupations that perpetuate the box.
In the colonies oppression was connected and sewn throughout everyone’s lives, but how they were is very different. On the colonist behalf the were oppressed by parliament and the slaves were oppressed by their masters. Each area of the colonies, south, middle, and north, was a little different with the south having major plantations, the middle being a mix of trade and plantation, and the north with trade and fishing. These colonies fought an epic war to not be oppressed and later in time the slaves fought also.
Based upon the areas of geography and climate resources, and political and social life, the Southern colonies will prove to be an asset in a possible war with France. The geography and climate in the Southern colonies would be suitable for battles but, it would be avoided for economic reason. The Southern colonies will be able to cover the economic problems in the war. The political and social life would be no problem since they would probably be loyal to England. There are no problems in including the Southern colonies in a possible war against France.
My home in Georgia is centered on a slower pace of life. Variety is healthy thing have and mixing between a fast and slow peace is essential to ones well being. Hunting is a slower pace thing to do and its right in my back yard. Waiting on a deer to cross my path such an exciting moment. The fishing is also at a slow pace.
Kylie McEwen Slave Narratives and the Civil War "The more I read, the more I was led to abhor and detest my enslavers" (Douglass 43). This was said by Frederick Douglass, an ex-slave from Maryland. Douglass wrote a book recounting his experience as a slave, called the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave (Frederick Douglass and the Civil War). The book is an example of a slave narrative, which is a "firsthand account of... African Americans whon were enslaved" (Criner 1). Former slaves wrote different slave narratives differently before and after the Civil War.
Most understand that America was built largely on the backs of African slaves and that a civil war was fought over the right of white people to own slaves. This war began when the southern states decided to secede from the rest of the United States in order to keep their slaves; these formed their own country, the Confederate States of America, and created two flags of their own. This is one of the darker parts of American history that many would like to gloss over. The end of the civil war led to both the abolishment of slavery, and the end of the Confederacy as the involved states returned to the union. At the time the war ended, the flags of the Confederacy were mostly retired, but some of the men who had fought for the Confederacy refused
Have you ever wondered how life was for the slaves in the South? Slaves in the South suffered through many consequences. For example, they suffered through many whippings with cow skin if they didn't obey their master, they also got separated from their family mostly the fathers, so, they can be sold to a very mean slave owner. Even if they were living a miserable life on the farms, they had their own culture and they managed to even get married in the farmland or where they worked. Not only did the slaves live on the farm.

If you could describe the idea of Southern Culture in fewer than three words? Well a man of the name William Faulkner uses a special way to establish a perspective by using imagery which helps the reader to visualize his views. Faulkner has ways of viewing regular ideas in a more abstract less conventional way. He uses the imagery of a relation between characters along with a scent that allows for a sense of inspiration. Faulkner perspective on brokenness in Southern Culture is that it is in disarray.
A little town in the middle of nowhere is often seen as just a small backward little place. It does depend, however, on what such a place offers to those living there. For those who grow up in such a small place the treasures are endless. This is the place where you learn most of life’s lessons, if not all of them. Having grown up in a town that was really a compact city, made the greatest impression on my life.
