Growing up in a Mexican household, the food we ate always had a spice to it. Whether the spice was on the side or already prepared in the food, my food always had a spice to it. My grandma’s favorite signature spice was her Pico De Gallo. Pico de Gallo also called salsa Fresca, is made from chopped tomato, onion, cilantro, fresh Serrano’s (jalapeños or habaneros are used as alternatives), salt, and key lime juice. At first I did not like Pico de Gallo because I couldn’t bear how spicy it was.
This school is a tradition is my family. My great grandpa, grandpa, father, and now my brother attends as a very successful student and athlete. This school has changed my life drastically. I do not live with my brother, Will. Which is hard for all my family.
I have involved with music since I was a child, however, the thought of architecture and acoustics never came to mind. When it came to high school I soon realized that there were certain designs and elements that each venue had, but never thought much of it. Until this class I never knew how much went into the design of certain architectural structures such as music venues, offices, apartments, etc. Each structure has certain design elements that make them individually pleasing to the people who interact with them. One place that I found to be interesting in regards to the acoustics in a public venue is my church back home in St. Louis, Missouri.
As American lights illuminate the stunning skyline of opportunity, we, as Americans, don't always bask in the glory of this powerful glow. Within the nonfiction novel Enrique's Journey by Sonia Nazario, a teenage boy, Enrique, sums up the courage of a thousand men to travel through treacherous trials to find his mother in America. Showing more bravery than I ever will muster in my entire lifetime, Enrique has made a deep impression upon me about perseverance; however, with his determination to reach his mother, I was surprised with how many times he was forced to begin his perilous journey again. In modern day American society, we witness hardship and a struggle to start again on the movie screens, but we are comforted by the distance that is
She describes her family as “abusive and very poor.” For her, the school became a break from her tumultuous home life, a place where she saw adults who lived their
As I walk through the doors hundreds of memories flood into my mind as the smell of yesterday’s incense hits my nose. In a way I grew up here from baptism, first communion, to confirmation. Various friends and family scattered in the pews nodding to you as you enter the church since in a small town everyone knows everyone. The church is large and ornate for where it is placed; a little town of roughly 200 people. The inside is magnificent with intricately carved wooden pillars and elaborate paintings of Bible stories on the dome ceiling.
Ever since I was young, I have always heard someone talking about Marquette. Part of this may be due to the fact that three of my neighbors have gone to Marquette and have absolutely loved it. Adding on to that, I have met even more people that have gone to Marquette that have really liked it and are usually successful in life. I met even more people at the Marquette open house that were from all over the United States and said they went to Marquette and they hope their child will attend Marquette as well. This made me realize that Marquette is truly local, since I know several people that have gone to Marquette that live by me and at the same time it is global, since I have met people around the United States, as well as other countries that
Not only will I be receiving an excellent education, I will also be learning to grow into a more spiritual, moral person. At St. Brigid’s School, I have done my best to be a good student. I work hard and study to achieve academic success, and I ask my parents and teachers for help if I don’t understand a concept I have been learning. During my time at St.
My full name is Angel Jose Garcia, I am 16 years old and I am attending Grace M. Davis high school; I started off freshman year as a chubby kid with no motivation, but as I got a little bit older I have come to change for the better; I am very motivated to succeed and express myself. I enjoy running on my own and in cross country, as well as Teens Run Modesto. I do swimming as a school sport when it comes around, this was my second year doing it and I was team captain. I ran the Modesto Marathon for the first time on March 19, 2017 and got a time of 5 hours and 45 minutes, I know
God and church activities have been a part of my weekly routine for as long as I can remember. If it is nine o’clock on a Sunday morning, I will definitely be in a church pew at Highland Baptist Church. My parents make sure that I understand the importance of going to church and trying to exemplify the spirit of Christ daily. I have been given the amazing opportunity to be raised on Godly morals in a strong Christian household. Because of this, God has always been the center of my life, or at least that is what I thought.
I am Marie Thu Hoi Nguyen, a Sister of Saint Paul de Chartres Congregation in Grand Rapids, Michigan. On behalf of our children in Vietnam, I would like to take this opportunity to express my profound gratitude for your loving care and your great support. Your generosity surely make a big difference in their lives. I just came back from a special trip to Vietnam, one among various reasons was to visit my twin sister, Marie Xuan Lan Nguyen, who is also a Sister of Saint Paul de Chartres.
Before I discuss my experience at Grace Lutheran Church I feel it would be beneficial to explain my Church Background, so that you can better understand my outsider view of the Sunday morning worship Service I attended. I have been raised in the Baptist/Southern Baptist church my entire life. My parents are from South Carolina, which is also where I grew up, so our idea of Church has always been a small community with a very relaxed atmosphere. I stopped attending the Baptists church when I was 16. I chose to join Bent-tree Bible Fellowship, a non-denominational church.
In my brief life, I have overcome a lot of adversity. My mom fled Mexico with her three young children to escape domestic violence. When we came to this country we had only a few personal belongings and the promise of a better future. We came to this country and lived in a small trailer with no toilet other than a bucket, and no shower except for the one that was lent to us from the kindness of a stranger, our new neighbor. As a single parent, my mother had to work day and night to support us.
Reflective Diary: Appendix 1 is taken from my personal reflective diary which I wrote at the start of the PGCE course. At this stage of writing, I had not started my teaching placement so my understanding of behaviour management was still novice. My knowledge had broadened on many other topics that are pivotal to teaching, however, behaviour management had not yet been discussed. This reflection followed from a group discussion with friends and a one on one chat with my AT on my anxieties on manging behaviour in class. This reflection marks a fundamental moment in my thinking as I was becoming mindful that the process of developing as a practitioner would entail me to critically analyse my own previous experiences and beliefs.
Surviving in High School “The journey doesn’t start at the beginning, begins at the end.” School is one of the most memorable moments you will experience in your life, are those moments when you find a second family in your life called “classmates”, they start being strangers to classmates, classmates to friends and friends to brothers and sisters, you spent every single day of your life for more or less 2 years of your life that you start to know them more than anybody. I study in Colegio De La Salle in Panama City, Panama. My years in De La Salle are priceless, because it’s the place where I grew up as a student and the most importan as an Human being. During my time in De La Salle I found “Ma Squad” that’s how we call our group back in Panama, where we experience and pass so many things together.
