Music carries each and every one of us to a new awareness. It can reach to the innermost part of an individual. Music can envelope our emotions from tears all the way to our joy. It captivates and motivates. As I attended a concert on Saturday, November 7, 2015, Lynyrd Skynyrd performed with power and feeling to their audience.
Final Draft We all have stories and memories tied to songs that have become a part of who are. Remember the violins playing in the background while watching a sad movie or the song that helped you through difficult times or the song you and your friends sang while attending a concert? Whether it’s on the television, the radio, in a movie, in the car, or at a sporting event, music is everywhere. Feeling the rhythm of music brings us so much joy and excitement but playing musical instrument is even more fulfilling because it has many benefits.
Standing on the dark stage, I took deep, slow breaths to calm my nerves. My stomach did somersaults and my hands shook. Fidgeting with my pink peasant top and ankle length yellow floral skirt, I made eye contact with my fellow actors. The closed curtain was the only thing separating us from an audience of five hundred people. One would think that after three months of rehearsals I would feel prepared for this, but I didn’t.
Younger generations are inseparable from their headphone but when asked about music, they become soundless and grow distant. In “Can Music Save Your Life,” college professor Mark Edmundson describes his studies of how music affects the mind and concludes that music makes the generation feel like their voices are heard through the lyrics. He believes that people use music to escape our fears, reality, and to soothe ourselves. When individuals listen to a specific song that opens a door in their minds, they tend to listen to the song repeatedly until it has no effect anymore and the door closes. Music makes people search further into themselves and they begin to flourish through every lyric, every note, and every instrument played in the song.
Hearing the breathtaking sound of a beautiful countermelody gliding just beneath and blending with a powerful melody can send shivers down the spines of many people. At a concert, instruments of all different shapes, sizes, and sounds come together to put on a performance for the community to hear, and if the chords balance just right, an incredible song can turn into a majestic story. Not to mention, most students who participate in these bands are extremely passionate about creating music. The memorization skills of these kids are generally much better than those of a person who does not participate in band. Additionally, the stress levels that they may develop in school are lower, and their grades could improve drastically.
I chose this dance because it seemed like a true ballet dance. While I was looking for a clip I came across countless dances that were “mixed genres” such as, contemporary ballet and lyrical ballet. This dance is also very beautifully unique, the way the dancer makes her positions clear(1:16), how she uses her limbs to her long limbs to her advantage, and how her movements progressively get faster with the song make this dance unique .
“GOAL!” My final kick as a U-14 soccer player ended the game with a score of 3-2. With that game, the team ended its season in second place, a great accomplishment for this motley bunch. As the season came to a close, and we were awarded our trophies, I was already looking ahead to high school. For years I knew that I would attend Bishop Hendricken High School, a school well-known for its soccer team.
Singing has been my passion ever since I was a little kid. However, when I was younger, I was always shy and never wanted to let anyone hear me sing. After school, I would spend countless hours in my bedroom belting “Part of Your World” to my stuffed animals, but I refused to let anyone, even just my parents, hear my performance. After overhearing me singing, my mom encouraged me to get involved in musical theater. Just the thought of getting up in front of anyone terrified me.
Imagine a world without music—a world stripped of its vibrant colors, its rhythmic heartbeat, and its soul-stirring melodies. Music has been an inseparable companion in humanity for generations. It has the power to forge connections between people, shape identities, and propel societies forward. Throughout US history, music has the power to transcend boundaries, touch our souls, and shape society culturally. As music evolves over time, it voices different eras, capturing the emotions and experiences of those periods.
It happened on June 11, 2015. My lacrosse team won our regional quarter final game the previous day—I scored my personal best of five goals and was named Player of the Game. As a reward for the win, my coach gave us a three hour practice the next day that was strictly conditioning—leaving the seniors 30 minutes to go home, shower, change, and drive to our Senior Dinner at Bowdoin College. I raced home from practice, my sweat sticking to the car leather seats, music blasting, and the wind in my hair. I had the future on my mind: playoffs, graduation, summer, and college.
As an adolescent I tended to be very discreet and shy at times, especially around girls my age. Overall I was a very awkward child. While attending a coed elementary school at Monroe it was very intimidating. There were girls that were always trying to talk to me and I just wasn’t sure how to react to the situation. I went home several days telling my parents that I needed to move schools.
I was assigned to door 10 when the doors were opened. At door 10, I did my briefing with my group and instructed them about what is allowed and what is not but then, I got moved to the little theater to watch 1 and 3. I did another briefing with the group and informed about everything again that is
This photo taken on October 15th illustrates a concert that I attended. I was trying to portray the gathering of people, through music, and how one single person with a guitar and his voice can affect the way people feel and the relationships between friends. The music can be gloomy and emotional, bright and exciting, or even a little bit of both. Either way, music brings people together and impacts us all. Not only, but it affects the signers as well, and it is apparent.
I have had tough hope once, I had to move to a different state and start to get used to the new place. Moving was hard and took a long time to move everything to our new house. My new house was hard to get used to because it was different and I wasn 't used to it which made it hard to sleep and I had to leave my friends behind and I would have to find new friends. Making new friends was hard because I would be alone until I found new friends and I would have no one to talk to so I would be very quiet. Usually I would always be talking to a friend and I am only social with friends.
The first concert I choose to attend was the UMKC ensemble series. It featured the wind ensemble and the wind symphony. The first song that Joseph Parisi, conductor, started with was “The Duke of Marlborough Fanfare” by Percy Grainger starts of very slow and deep with the melody being played by the woodwinds. The melody also sounds very prideful as if it is part of a end of a war and they feel proud at what they accomplished.
