Another day at Fenway. The Boston Red Sox are trailing the Cincinnati Reds 4-1 and Mookie Betts (The Red Sox Right Fielder) comes to the bat for the first time tonight due to a sore arm. Bronson Arroyo (Reds Pitcher) throws a wicked curveball that is almost impossible to hit. But Mookie knew that this ball was long gone. Arroyo thought he was gonna strike out Mookie
I watched this game on television but I can still remember the silence during the last at bat against Houston Astros Jason Castro. Every second, everything was hanging onto that very last pitch. My heart was pounding in my head and before I knew Matt Cain threw his first perfect game. That is exactly what I love about baseball. The intensity.
Here we were the last tournament of the year. We were in the championship. Towards the end of the game I was on third base, we were down one run then the worst hitter on the team came up, Owen. Of course he hit it right to the first baseman. Unfortunately we got second.
I was the 5th hitter, and waiting. After the other team warmed up, the first batter on our team was up, the pitcher threw the ball and he swung and got on first, we all cheered. The 2nd batter was up and swung 2 times and missed. The next pitch was a ball. He stepped out of the batter 's box and took some deep breaths.
The umpire calls, “Strike one!” I thought it wasn’t a strike, but I went with it because I didn’t want to get into a fight. I step out of the box, fix my batting gloves and take another swing the get back in. The next pitch comes and you could hear a “DING”. I swung and hit it down the right field line.
A few weeks ago, I was finally able to make my first Georgia Southern baseball game. I am not proud that it took over a year for me to ultimately make a game. I have never been the biggest baseball fan, but I couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to see Georgia Southern play the University of Georgia. I was very curious to see how the stadium and field looked, because I heard about the new renovations that the school added in the offseason. I also was interested to analyze how they promote their sponsors, because I will be doing the same thing when I start my internship this fall, at East Coweta High School.
Seventh game, bottom of the 10th and the Chicago Cubs were up 8-7 against the Cleveland Indians with 2 outs. One out, one pitch, one play and it could happen, for the first time in 108 years we could win. One home run and we would lose it all. My dad and I nervously glance at the bases, one hitter, and one player on first. Mike Montgomery throws the pitch.
“Hit a homerun” I thought. The pitch was thrown, “Strike”called the umpire. My heart was racing because I really wanted to win this game. The pitcher threw the next pitch. “Strike”the umpire called again, I started getting a feeling that we were going to lose.
The World Series is basically the championship of baseball. The New York Yankees have won 26 World Series titles, which is more than any other team. The first woman owner of a major league team was Helene Britton, who owned the St. Louis Cardinals from 1911 to 1917
Championship game day, the game started off good and we were really close, tied as a matter of fact until the bottom of the sixth it was the last inning we had to hold them to go to extra innings. One runner got walked the next got a hit so the first runner got to third then we got two outs. Then their best hitter comes up and it was a full count and he hits a single and they win. Now Briggs and I were very competitive, so we took it pretty hard.
Harper’s first full year without injury came last year where the 23 year-old played in 153 games. The league found out fast that if you give the emerging superstar a full year, you can take the “emerging” part out of the equation and just call him a superstar. His 2015 season read like this; .330 avg, .460 OBP, .649 SLG, 42 HRs, 99 RBI and 38 doubles.
As I pound my bat against home plate I get ready for the perfect ball to come. Then it came, the perfect ball, could not have curved any better, I smacked it with my bat, It was out of the park! It could have been the last game of the season for the Braves Major league Baseball, we were the best, the champions, then the A’s put up a fight but they will not end it now. The A’s got the whole Braves team nervous, so we practiced for every day for the next two weeks preparing for game, then half way through two weeks of training the Braves were stronger, prepared, and twice as good as the used to be, they boosted their self esteem double their regular.
On September 8, 1998 there was a MLB record broken. This record stood for over 35 years and was held by New York Yankee, Roger Maris. As Jesse Quiroz lay on the couch, he explains his memory of the night that Mark Mcgwire broke one of the hardest records to break in MLB history. He remembered that night very vividly.
I’ve been anticipating the season to start for about the last 5+ months. These past couple of months have been so boring cause I have been doing nothing but going to school. No sports for that long is awful so every time baseball comes around I 'm so ecstatic. So you know I have been counting down the days until the season. This year I was drafted to the diamondbacks, every year this league
Then I ran out to the field and began pitching. It was the change of an inning. I went into the dugout, got my drink of my water and rested my arm for the next inning of pitching. First batter was up for our team, he got a hit. The second batter, strikes out.
