Throughout my past four years at Weddington High School, I am inspired by the impact my teachers have given me. I believe education is the greatest gift you can give to a person who is striving to make a difference. This is something that I have been interested in for several years. I am currently a teacher assistant for Mrs. Donna Nunn’s Microsoft Word and PowerPoint class that allows me to see how lesson plans are carried out in a classroom environment and I know that this experience has given me a stronger desire to become a teacher. During my freshman year of high school, Ms. Marisa DiFronzo made literature become a very engaging subject for me, not only by her way of teaching but also her ability to bring the class together as one.
She is described as a pioneer in her work. As she was the first woman to receive tenure as an English professor at previously all male college who also happens to have a great reputation, in addition to excelling Harvard and Oxford, almost as if she had never been completely challenged. Challenges allow people to grow and experience things that are out of their control. This lack of being challenged academically and professionally has left her with the feeling that she can control every aspect of her life and even the lives
Hoebee was when she said, “The teachers I had at Wilson when I went to school here really inspired me to pursue a career in education. I saw how much they helped others and I appreciated the time and effort they invested to help me learn.” This quote was significant to me because I also attend Wilson and I have had many teachers over the years who have cared about my education and me. A specific story that Ms. Hoebee shared with me related to her goldfish when she was a little girl.
One of the best teachers I had was Mrs. Flores in the 3rd grade. Mrs. Flores wore bright dresses and resembled my grandmother’s jolly personality. There was not a day of class Mrs. Flores told us how important education was, I believe it had a lot to do with her upbringing. I was a troubled kid in school and did not care much about school. One day Mrs. Flores pulled me aside and so kindly similar to a mother tone she told me she believed in me and that I had potential to do anything that I wanted to do.
I have had many teachers throughout the years that have had a great impact on my attitude toward education. No instructor however has had such a huge impact in my life as Miss Mindy Sopher. I first saw her name as my academic advisor listed in My Pack Portal, or my online account at NC State. I had no idea what type of experience I would have with her. Last summer before my freshman year, I sent her an email introducing myself and she was quite impressed by my ambitions, especially becoming a “geographical engineer.”

As teachers, I believe we all have stories to tell, some good and some not. When Ginley mentions the story about Shary and what was going on at home with her sister, I too remembered a similar story.

I have always been and forever will be in love with reading. I realized this when I was in fourth grade with my teacher Mrs. Gokey. She had light brown curly hair with a few blonde strands here or there up to her shoulders, stood almost 6 feet tall, and had the gentlest hazel eyes a person could have. Mrs. Gokey would read us books every Friday as a sort of treat for getting through the week. One of her first reads was the book "Mick Harte Was Here".

Nerdy, right? The thing about books is that you can lose yourself in a world that wouldn’t normally exist in reality. Knowledge is power. I get uber excited about books, because that is what I love. If I could, I would read books all the time, and I do, just not in book form.
