Who I Have Become Transferring high schools was one of the hardest challenge I have had to overcome. It taught me lessons and put me through challenges I am so thankful for today. While walking around the new halls on my first day, I was overwhelmed by all the stares from kids I have never met before. This was very intimidating and brought about an immense feeling of fear, and I would have never thought that I would have been able to overcome that and become a stronger person from it. I was swarmed with this overpowering feeling of fear. I soon came to feel as if dropping out might be my only option to escape this. That week I had basketball tryouts, a sport that I had been playing for most of my life. After the three days of tryouts, I was informed that I had made the varsity team. That filled me with hope and gave me a lot of confidence, confidence that I needed to change who I had become. People started to know who I was, plus I became friends with all the girls on the team. I felt on top of the world and like nothing could go wrong, the first time that I had had that feeling since I moved. That was the boost I needed to start becoming the person who I wanted to be. Talking about the everyday challenges that I had been experiencing became easier, and that's when my mom asked me, “why do you want to be exactly who you use to be, why not become better?”. Her question really made me think, and that is when I really started taking actions to better myself and started putting myself out there in situations I might normally have felt uncomfortable in. My mom told me the next day, “you are better than you believe you are”.
