It was the last inning in our all-star game, and we were losing 10 to 8. Our team had 2 outs and we couldn’t get the third. Our pitcher was doing bad, throwing all balls, while all of us in the field were tired, ready to fall asleep at any moment. There goes another walk. They score again.
For fifteen years, I put my heart, effort, and soul into my band Murky Waters. I made it into a career that supports my wife, my stepdaughter, and my parents. Murky Waters is what saved my family and me from poverty in the ghetto of Warsaw, Poland, and it’s what saved me from giving up on life entirely before I met my wife. I met her only a year after Murky Waters began and she was introduced to me by my best friend and drummer, Tony. Anka was two months pregnant with my stepdaughter, Antonia, at the time we met.
Society has a very black and white view of gender. If you have male genitalia you are a man and if you have female genitalia you are a girl. This view was harder on transgender people because they were either not accepted as whom they identified as or were degraded because of their sexuality. However, there are some transmen who transition after giving birth or are in the process and these views are the hardest on them. In Transparent Rosskam shows two different viewpoints of transmen that give birth: some who are completely unhappy and uncomfortable during their pregnancy and some who form a motherly bond with their children.
I was born trans, and I will die trans. There is nothing parent’s, my priest, or myself could have done or will do to change that. I came out as transgender the summer before I started high school, and let me tell you this, it was quite a shock to my parents. Let me tell you this, there is no amount of hints you can drop that will make two gold star Catholic parents ponder, “Hmm, I think my daughter, just might be a boy,” even if you go the extra mile to the most tomboy person imaginable, cut all your hair off, only wear boy clothes, and develops an obsession with studying trans people while reporting back to them. Not even for second will it cross their minds.
The transition from eighth grade to ninth grade is one of the most difficult but unforgettable things a student must do in his adolescence. For me, it was filled with new opportunities of taking Ap classes and joining clubs. One of these cubs was Youth and Government (Y&G). For as long as I can remember my brother, Riad, has boasted about how amazing Y&G is and how it has changed his life. My brother is three years older then me, so as a freshman he was a senior in Y&G.

It is a professional duty of a nurse to render care for all patients regardless of their gender, religion, race and ethnicity. But when a nurse who takes care of you is homosexual it might already be a different kind of thing but it all depends on how the two individuals would interact with each other. Stereotypes of homosexual behavior may affect the care that is rendered to their patients because of the gender conflicts that might lead to the inefficient and insufficient care that is given by the nurse. It is unquestionable that the population of homosexuals grow as the year goes by and it only means that there is also an increasing number of homosexuals who are entering in the world of nursing.
Sitting on the edge of the marble countertop, leaning against the refrigerator with my knees tucked to my chest, I rubbed my phone frantically against my athletic shorts—having been smudged from my sweaty and oily face—as I apprehensively prepared to divulge my colossal secret to my best friend. In the reflection of the screen, I noticed my ears had reddened; I could feel my underarms dampen and my breathing become shallow. I only had to say three words—two if I used a contraction—yet those words seemed so foreign on my tongue, even though they were native to my brain. I tried to calm myself down by taking a few deep breaths, but the lingering smell of barbecue chicken and mashed potatoes did little to alleviate my nerves.
I am an eighteen year old half white, half black, queer, agnostic woman, so to say my fixed positions affect my values and beliefs is an understatement. I am at the age where self love and “rebellion” are at an all time high. I question social norms every chance I get. Being that I am a queer, agnostic woman, I believe in equal rights and separation of church and state. Since I am half black, I feel I see racial problems more seriously than my all white counterparts.
Privilege is a word that I hear very often and especially now that I’m in college I hear it almost everyday. I’m glad that I have heard this word a plethora of times because it has allowed me to analyze and see my role in privilege. Addition to the in class CDI “ Unmasking Your Privilege”, I also went to “Paving the Way: First- Generation College Students”, both workshops were informational and I truly enjoyed them. My main takeaway from the workshops is that although I am a Black Women I do have some privilege, I have learned that there are levels and different types of privilege.
The Disease That Changed My Life On May 23rd 2006 my life changed forever. I woke up as normal to use the bathroom and do my morning ritual of washing my face. As the water splashed on my face, I grabbed the towel to wipe my face and looked in the mirror to the horrific bone chilling fact of my face being paralyzed.
Understanding gender and sexuality as socially constructed categories is important because it helps people understand a certain group. Gender and sexuality is expressed in many categories and people must be careful not to mix people in the wrong category. Simply because one expresses their sexuality different from another person does not mean they should be bashed or treated differently. Sometimes it does not matter what you identify as, who you identify with, people will always judge you, so its best people just do what they want. Putting gender in a category helps others not stereotype them as something they are not.
They continue to face the discrimination and exclusion in the world and violence. Like in EU, the same-sex couples and the opposite-sex couples have big difference because the same-sex couples do not enjoy their rights and protection compare to the opposite-sex couples. And same-sex couples suffer from discrimination and disadvantages in access to social protection scheme. Majority of LGBT hide their sexuality out of fear of losing their jobs. Youth LGBT are vulnerable.
