Personal Review: Just Another Girl From The Get Go

I liked “Just another girl” from the get go. The book started out interesting and was so well written that I wanted to keep reading throughout the whole book. In the book I thought that I should look at my own life and analyze how I am living my everyday standards. I look up to Aster, how she concentrates on her demeanor and believes in herself. Like other teens her age, Aster does not focus on what others think of her, but what she thinks of herself. Aster Flynn spends all of her spare time taking care of her sister, Lily, with no help from her older sister, Rose, or her mother. Asters’ mom has to pay all the bills, and pay for the expenses of the family with no help from the father. Rose on the other hand, only cares for herself and does not help with Lily in the slightest bit. Throughout the book Aster begins to realize that she deserves to have a life as well as anyone else her age. Aster wants to go out on dates, and be able to live a life like a normal teenager. Aster is a very bold 16 year old girl, that possess the important aspects of life. Unlike other teenage girls her age, Aster takes care of her 15 year old sister, Lily who has a mental illness. Aster expresses everyday gratitude, and works very hard without even realizing it. With all the time Aster has between taking care of Lily, and not hanging out with friends; she does her homework and studies in her free time. During the summer of her Junior year, Aster found out her SAT score was the not only the highest in her class, but the highest ever scored. Towards the end of the book, Aster realizes she does not have a life. When she realizes she has a chance to live her life and go to college, she could not wait to get out into the real world and see what it is like without Lily following her
