What would you do if a random girl asked to stay at your house? That was the situation that August Boatwright found herself having to think about in The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. In the book, Lily runs away from her house with Rosaleen, looking for answers about her mom and running from the police to Tiburon. She finds a house with August and her two sisters, letting Lily and Rosaleen stay. Eventually, August lets Lily and Rosaleen live at the house permanently. August is the most influential character in The Secret Life of Bees because of her generosity to Lily and the truths she tells her. August told Lily the truth about her mother and comforted her about it, which makes her the most influential character. While August is influential, some say that Rosaleen is the most influential character to Lily, acting like the mother she didn't have.“We had just started to clean them up when T.
