My hopes for what my life will be like in ten years from now are extensive. I aspire to have graduated from graduate school and use the knowledge and training I have cultivated over those years to launch into my operatic career. In the time in which this happens, I want to accomplish specific goals in my education such as being well versed in music history, languages, and vocal technique in order to successfully support my career.

I am extremely interested in the history of behind the music. I believe that there is something very specific to classical music that makes it different from any other art form: almost everything you need to know is in the score. Extensive study of the score can give you authentic insight into the composer’s intention for the music. It is immensely detailed, intricate, and specific. In this sense, opera, and classical music in general, is like a well oiled machine. The score is the blueprints, the instruments are the foundation, and the musicians are the batteries. Contrary to popular belief, machines are not cold and lifeless. They have the ability to transmit incomparable moments to people, like feeling the cozy heat from a furnace on a winter night. Language is imperative in vocal music. Although my love for classical music is deep, my passion for opera is because of language and the human voice. Language is something specific to humans. The voice is part of us, we carry it everywhere we go and incorporate it into everything we do as a species. It is our main form of communication, and is so beautiful, distinct, and affects people more than any other art form because everyone is able to relate to it. Therefore, truly understanding the text in the music is profoundly important for vocalists.
